The calculation of "amount of substance" is the most basic and core calculation in high school chemistry calculation. At the same time, the "amount of substance" is the first key and difficult point for high school students to learn.According to the author's knowledge, students have a poor grasp of the "amount of substance" calculation. In practice and examination, there is a phenomenon of "making mistakes when meeting the calculation problem, teaching when meeting the calculation problem, failing after teaching, teaching again after students' failure, and even giving up when meeting the calculation problem".Therefore,it is necessary to diagnose the students' calculation ability of "amount of substance",find out the reason of the problems in the calculation process, and improve the students' calculation ability.SOLO classification theory is an evaluation theory from "quantity" to "quality".Through SOLO classification theory, students' calculation ability of "amount of substance" can be diagnosed, and students' mastery of "amount of substance" calculation can be determined. On this basis, reasons can be found and targeted learning suggestions can be put forward to effectively break through this difficulty. Therefore, based on SOLO classification theory, the article determines the evaluation framework by Yang Jian's two-dimensional evaluation system of SOLO classification, combining the characteristics of knowledge of "amount of substance" itself and the development of students' thinking.According to the relevant knowledge of "amount of substance" in common senior high school chemistry curriculum standard(2017 edition)and compulsory 1 of edition pressed by Shandong educational press and the questions of the college entrance examination in the past three years,a knowledge frame of "amount of substance" calculation is constructed.Based on the evaluation framework, the requirements in the curriculum standards and the college entrance examination questions in the past three years are divided horizontally, the questions and difficulties of the mid-term and final examination questions and the examination questions in the guidance materials are sorted out,and the high school students' "amount of substance" calculation ability prediction examination paper is compiled in combination with the knowledge framework.Combined with the evaluation framework, the SOLO level evaluation scale of pretest was compiled for the prediction questions. This study is based on 68 senior highschool students from a high school in Sheqi County of Nanyang City. After the pretest, the 68 valid test papers collected were analyzed.According to the analysis results, the test questions were adjusted appropriately to generate formal test papers.Meanwhile, for the formal test questions,a formal test SOLO level evaluation scale was developed based on the evaluation framework and the results of the pretest. In the formal study, the sample size was expanded to include 216 senior high school students from a high school in Sheqi County of Nanyang City. After the formal test,214 valid test papers were coded, and each student's answer was marked and quantified according to SOLO classification evaluation scale. The data were collated and analyzed to diagnose the students' SOLO level of "amount of substance" calculation ability.Select one student from each of the formal tests with excellent, good and fine results to conduct interviews, and find out the factors that affect the students' calculation ability of "amount of substance" based on the interview results and test analysis results.Based on the students' SOLO level and the factors affecting them, the paper puts forward some suggestions to improve the students' calculation ability of "amount of substance".The results show that:(1)10.8% of the students are at the advanced level of the Relational for the "amount of substance",which can solve the problems in complex environment and flexibly apply chemical ideas and methods;Nearly 20% of the students are at the level of Relational and can grasp the formula conversion and topic analysis;Nearly 50% of the students are at the level of Mul-tistructural and can apply and convert simple formulas.About 10% of the students were at the level of the Pre-structurla and did not grasp the concept of "amount of substance";On the whole, students have a poor grasp of problems involving the number of microscopic particle, liquor and unfamiliar environment.(2)The factors that affect students' ability to calculate "amount of substance" are: their basic knowledge is not solid; The formula cannot be flexibly applied and converted.Lack of calculation ability often leads to mistakes in numerical calculation, which affects problem solving. The ability of autonomous migration is low; Can't transfer the existing knowledge and problem-solving ideas independently;Learning methods are inappropriate, there is no timely correction and feedback to the mistakes in the exercises.(3)Based on the analysis results, some suggestions are put forward to improve students' calculation ability of "amount of substance" : It is suggested that teachers adjust the teaching content and process according to the diagnosis result of SOLO classification theory;Carry out special training on calculation topics, such as designing students to masterslightly poor calculation topics related to microscopic particle, liquor number, conservation ideas, etc. And carry out thematic training on wrong questions; And combine SOLO classification theory to diagnose students' classroom performance and exercises,so as to teach students according to their aptitude.Guide students to use use concept maps to construct knowledge network of "amount of substance";Guide students to solve problems in the process of explicit thinking, improve students' ability to transfer, and develop good study habits.
