Research On The Source And Operation Of Funds Of Central China University(1924-1950)

Central China university is a missionary university jointly established by five missionary associations from Britain and the United States.As a missionary university jointly run by five missionary societies and mainly funded by American missionary societies,the fund management system of Central China university is actually a transplant of the mode of American private universities in China under the special historical environment.From the perspective of external relations of the university,the subordination relationship of the fund management system of Central China University can be expressed as:Domestic Headquarters of Missionaries—Board of Founders of Central China university—Board of Directors of Central China University;From the perspective of internal management,it is the three-level management mode of the Board of Directors—the President—the General Affairs Committee.The fund management system of Central China University drew lessons from the fund management model of private universities in the United States.The division of fund management was meticulous and clear,and all departments cooperated closely and orderly.To some extent,the perfection of its fund management system was better than that of national and private universities in China at that time.As a missionary university,Central China University mainly relies on the financial sources of various cooperative missions,which are divided into three parts:Mission Board Appropriations,Mission Board Personnel and the Endowment Interest.As the impact of Central China university education in China is becoming more and more widely,also gradually to attract funds from the domestic and foreign institutions and organizations such as the Board of Directors of China Education and Culture Foundation,the Board of Directors of Managing Boxer Indemnity Remission,Harvard—Yenching Institute,Associated Boards of Christian Colleges in China dong for their contributions,such as this to a certain extent,also promote the development of the departments of Central China University.As a university in China,Central China University was bound to be beholden to the Chinese Government,which often gave it some form of financial support.However,from the perspective of the Chinese Government,the reason behind this phenomenon of funding is to show the government's control over the development of the missionary education,so as to transform the function of the missionary universities.Even so,during the whole development period of its existence as a private university,the religious nature of Central China University has never undergone a fundamental change,and it has always been proud of its religious tradition,and its religious activities have never stopped.It was not until the end of 1951,when Central China University was nationalized and made public,that the nature of its private missionary university was fundamentally changed and it became truly a Chinese university.
