Learning interest is a concentrated expression of learner enthusiasm and initiative.Learning interest is not only the basis for students to learn effectively and improve academic performance but also an indispensable key element in the era of lifelong learning.Parents,as the first and most important educators for their children's growth, play a vital role in cultivating and stimulating students' interest in learning. From the perspective of family education, cultivating students' learning interest not only needs to create a good educational environment but also requires the all-round active parents'involvement. When the fair and quality of education are raised to the level of national strategy,it is important to explore the effect of parents' involvement on student learning interest. This study builds an educational production function based on human capital theory, using students' learning interest as an indicator of educational output, and examining the effect of parents' involvement on students' learning interest controlling other influencing variables. The research data is from the questionnaire survey data of 8 districts and counties in Hubei Province, and there are 4,527 valid student samples. The data analysis results show that:1.Parents' involvement has a significant impact on student learning interest. We found that the factors affecting students' learning interest mainly came from individual characteristics, family characteristics and class atmosphere. Many characteristics are significantly different in different parents' involvement groups.Students with high parents' involvement are more likely to come from families with higher socioeconomic status, have a better health situation and can receive longer preschool education. Then they are more likely to Enter schools and classes with better locations and better teachers.2.There is a significant urban-rural difference in the impact of parents' involvement on student learning interests.Comparing the impact of parental participation on the learning interest of urban and rural students,it can be found that for urban students, lower parents' involvement has a significant adverse effect on urban student learning interest, and higher parents' involvement has a significant positive effect on urban student learning interest.Lower parents' involvement has a merely marginal impact on rural students, and higher parents' involvement has a significant positive impact on rural students' learning interest.3.The class atmosphere and parents' involvement have a significant substitute effect.Schools and families are the two main educational environments. We found that among school factors, the class atmosphere has a significant impact on students' learning interests and has a significant moderating effect on parents' involvement. This means that for students who lack parents' involvement,a good class atmosphere can help alleviate the negative impact of urban students due to lack of parents' involvement, and lack of significant effects for rural students who lack parents' involvement.Based on the results, this study puts forward the following recommendations. One is to enhance parents' educational awareness and ability. The other is the urban-rural differentiation strategy, including the consideration of the urban-rural differences in family education when formulating and implementing family education-related policies, classifying and guiding urban and rural families, and strengthening the important role of parents' involvement. In addition,it is necessary to further strengthen the internal connection between home education and school education, and promote the development of students through home-school cooperation.
