In order to meet the needs of the development of the times and better guide the students to explore the occurrence and development of knowledge,China's junior high school physics textbooks have been adapted many times, and are constantly improving in many aspects such as innovation, timeliness, and relevance. In this process,a comparative study of mainstream textbooks in developed countries is of positive significance. It can not only learn from the strengths of textbooks in other countries, but also change the perspective to examine the deficiencies of domestic textbooks and improve them.As a western education powerhouse,Britain has rich experience in education reform. Its teaching materials are worthy of our study. On the other hand, physics is an experimental science, and the experimental part of physics textbooks is very important. There are very few articles on the experimental part of physics textbooks in China and Britain. This paper uses literature analysis, comparative analysis, and case analysis to combine qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis to conduct a comparative study from the surface structure research and the deep structure research. In the analysis of the surface structure, comparative research is conducted from five aspects: the proportion of experiments in different plates, the comparison of experimental columns, the proportion of different types of experiments, the comparison of experimental illustrations and the comparison of experimental equipment. In the deep structure analysis, this paper sets the comparison model of value in combination with various factors such as the type of experiment, the number of experimental steps, and the difficulty of data processing to compare and study the experimental difficulty in Chinese and English physics textbooks. At the same time,by comparing the degree of openness of the experimental scheme and the degree of independence of the students 'conclusion process, the study compares the cultivation of students' independent experimental inquiry ability. The conclusions of the study are as follows:1.There are more experiments in English textbooks than in Chinese textbooks. The plates with the highest proportion of experiments are electromagnetic and wave. The plates with the largest proportion in Chinese textbooks are electromagnetic and force. The experiments in Chinese textbook sections are more evenly distributed.2.From the perspective of experimental columns, the classification of British textbooks is not as clear as that of Chinese textbooks. There are only demonstration experiments and experiments. On the other hand, the proportion of demonstration experiments in British textbooks is much less than in Chinese textbooks.British textbooks encourage as many students as possible to participate in the experiment, except for a small number of dangerous experiments, all are performed by students.3.From the perspective of experiment types,Chinese and English textbooks account for the largest proportion of exploratory experiments, and the proportion of various experiments is exploratory experiments> applied experiments> confirmatory experiments. It shows that the textbooks in both China and the United Kingdom attach great importance to guiding students to explore the laws of physics, and they attach importance to cultivating students' scientific inquiry abilities and attach importance to developing their abilities. There are more applied experiments in British textbooks than in China. In the process of physics learning,British students have a slightly higher chance of solving problems by using what they have learned.4.From the experimental illustrations, the experimental illustrations of Chinese and English junior high school physics textbooks have the most experimental equipment diagrams, while the British university textbooks have more experimental schematic diagrams than China. In some experiments,English textbooks use experimental schematic diagrams instead of text descriptions to guide students to summarize the principles. In addition, the proportion of fun textbooks in British textbooks is higher than Chinese textbooks.5.From the perspective of experimental equipment, the proportion of living materials in British textbooks is higher than in China, and more simulation experiments than Chinese textbooks have increased the proportion of living equipment. At the same time, the proportion of advanced materials in British textbooks is higher, and observations are more direct.6.From the perspective of experimental difficulty, the experimental difficulty of Chinese textbooks is generally higher than that of the United Kingdom. In terms of the number of experimental equipment, the number of experimental steps, the number of problems to be solved, and the difficulty of data processing, the Chinese textbook experiment is more difficult than the English textbook. As for the type of experiment, the proportion of demonstration experiments in the United Kingdom is less than that in China,so the experiment of textbooks in the United Kingdom is more difficult than this in China.7.From the perspective of cultivating students' independent experimental inquiry ability, the degree of openness of the British textbook experimental scheme is very low,but the degree of independence in the process of drawing experimental conclusions is higher than that of China. Therefore,Chinese and English textbooks have their own advantages in cultivating independent inquiry ability, and Chinese textbooks need to learn from English textbooks in guiding students to draw experimental conclusions.
