Picture book is an important game resource of dramatic play.Characteristics of picture book including its narrative storytelling,standardized language,artistry and situational setting highly correspond to the process of dramatic play.Picture book performance game is the integration of picture book and dramatic play,which not only enriches the resources of performance game,but also improves the utilization of picture book.Picture book performance game contributes to young children's reading in-depth,and it is beneficial to the gamification of the picture book teaching process.The integration of picture book and performance game is a complicated process.In theory,picture book performance game is conducted based on three stages: picture book reading,script processing and independent performance.In practice,the whole process and each phase of picture book performance game requires mutual effort of teachers and children.Based on the status,a case study is conducted to explore the general process and game guiding strategy of picture book performance game.This study was carried out in J kindergarten in Zhuzhou,Hunan.Children of Class A were selected to participate in the performance gameof the picture book named Earthworm Family.The whole course observation was achieved through camera assisted technology.On the basis of video analysis,this study adopted event sampling method to retrieve teachers ' guidance,then code and analyze it according to the classification system of game guiding strategy.Coding results were analyzed with SPSS 24.0.Meanwhile,this study made an elaborate description of each activity in each phase of this picture book performance game,and analyzed its merits and demerits of guiding strategy in each phase in a comprehensive way.Results showed that teachers adopted different guiding strategies at different stages in picture book performance game.At picture book reading stage,two main strategies were precise question,distinct referring questioning strategy and positive response,timely guidance questioning strategy.At script processing stage,teachers' guiding process was goal-oriented,combined with variable and systematic questioning,and flexible guidance.At independent performance stage,children were encouraged to perform independently and creatively,while teachers were supposed to see the value behind the conflict in the performance and provide corresponding positive guidance.Results suggest that guidance on picture book performance game can be conducted in a staged approach.Picture book performance game has three fundamental characteristics: integrity of guidance,continuity ofprocess and alignment of strategies.General strategy of picture book performance game guidance includes making feasible game plans,cultivating children's planing ability,children-centered dynamic guidance and promotion of children's social development.
