Educational equity is a basic requirement for the modernization of education in the new era.Minority science education,as a weak link in the field of basic education, has received increasing attention in recent years. In order to deepen the reform of basic education,it is imperative to strengthen the science education of minorities, and it is essential to cultivate the competence in the discipline of chemistry of minority students. This article takes the competence in the discipline of chemistry as the observation point, selects ninth graders of a middle school for minorities in Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture,Hunan Province as the research object, uses SPSS23.0,Winsteps,Excel2010 three data analysis software, and uses the literature research method,Questionnaire survey method, etc.to study the competence in the discipline of chemistry of ninth graders in middle school for minorities. This research mainly did the following work:(1)Based on the existing chemistry discipline ability assessment framework and test question bank,a chemistry subject competence assessment tool for ninth graders in middle school for minorities was compiled. The assessment framework consists of symbolic representation ability(S),concept understanding ability(C),model building ability(M),experimental inquiry ability(E)and the quantitative calculation ability(Q),each of which is divided into four ability levels.(2)Tested and evaluated the competence in the discipline of chemistry of more than 400 ninth graders in middle school for minorities. After the evaluation, data analysis was carried out from two aspects.First,in terms of the quality inspection of the assessment tool, the reliability and validity of the test paper were analyzed using SPSS23.0 and Winsteps software. The results showed that the reliability and validity of the assessment tool were both good, which can truly and effectively assess the students' the competence in the discipline of chemistry.Secondly,in terms of result analysis,SPSS23.0 software was used to perform overall descriptive statistics, independent sample t test and one-way analysis of variance on the original score of the test subject. Then, based on the Rasch model,Winsteps software was used to test the test subject's test score. The original scores were further converted into logit scores, and then the Excel2010 software was used to draw a histogram of the distribution of the students' the competence in the discipline of chemistry levels, and the evaluation results were presented from the four aspects of the overall chemistry ability, gender differences, class differences, and ethnic differences. Finally, based on the relevant literature, and the author's experience of practical investigation,a comprehensive analysis of the evaluation results was conducted to explore the influencing factors of the competence in the discipline of chemistry of ninth graders in middle school for minorities. This study mainly draws the following conclusions:(1)In terms of the overall competence in the discipline of chemistry, most of the ninth graders in middle school for minorities have the average ability, and there are few high-level and low-level students.Among the five specific ability dimensions, the proportion of students who have not reached basic level 1 is the most quantitative calculation ability(about 65%),the least is the symbolic representation ability(about 25%),and the other three abilities are centered(about 35 %).The highest levels of symbolic representation ability, model construction ability, and quantitative calculation ability are all level 2.Among the students who can reach this level, the least is quantitative calculation ability(about 15%);concept understanding ability, experimental exploration ability Examination of all levels, students who can reach the highest level 4 accounted for about 20% to 30%.That is,the third grade students of ethnic middle schools master the symbolic representation ability and model construction ability, followed by the concept understanding ability and experimental inquiry ability, and the quantitative computing ability is the worst.(2)With regard to the differences in the competence in the discipline of chemistry, the performance of the ninth graders of middle school for minorities in different categories is different. In terms of gender differences, there is a significant difference in the overall level. The average score of boys is lower than that of girls. In the five specific ability dimensions, except that there is no significant difference in symbolic representation ability, the other four abilities have significant differences. In terms of horizontal distribution,in each ability dimension, the proportion of girls at low levels is far less than that of boys, and girls are more prominent at high levels. In terms of class differences, there is a significant difference in the overall level. The average score of the parallel classes is much lower than that of the key classes, and the class differences of the five sub-abilities have reached a significant level. In terms of level distribution, the ability levels of students in parallel classes are concentrated at low levels, while most students in key classes can reach the highest level of each ability. In terms of ethnic differences,a rough one-way analysis of variance showed that there was no significant difference in the competence in the discipline of chemistry of students of various ethnicities. This article provides reference for the study of the competence in the discipline of chemistry of ninth graders of middle school for minorities. It proposes some research enlightenment in the aspect of cultivating and improving the competence in the discipline of chemistry of minority students, and reflects on the inadequacy of the research.
