The Effect Of Background Features On Facial Expression Recognition In Children With Autism

From a clinical perspective,social and comprehension disorders are often considered signs of children with autism,and the inability to facial expression recognition is the main cause of these deficiencies.Therefore,emotional face recognition is considered to be one of the main obstacles for children with autism.Emotions are social,and faces are always accompanied by background features.Studies have shown that children with autism have shortcomings in integrating background information.Based on this,it is easy to have one-sidedness by presenting the face independently to evaluate the facial expression recognition processing ability of children with autism.Based on this,this study focuses on background features,and explores the effects of background features on the process of facial expression recognition and results of children with autism from three perspectives: background color,background emotion,and emotional consistency between background and face.This study consists of three experiments.Children with autism and ordinary children with matching score of PPVT and CRT were selected.Data were collected using Tobbi Pro X3-120 eye tracker to investigate the accuracy of facial recognition,correct response time,and various eye movement indicators in children with autism in different backgrounds.The findings are as follows:Experiment ?: Explore the effect of background color and expression type on facial expression recognition.The results show that:1.Children with autism have different recognition of different expressions.2.Background color has a certain effect on the process of identifying different facial expressions in children with autism.3.Children with autism have certain local processing characteristics in the process of facial expression recognition.Experiment ?: Explore the effect of background and background emotion on facial expression recognition.The results show that:1.The expression recognition of autistic children under different background properties is affected by background emotions.2.The facial expression recognition of children with autism and typical development children in different natures and different emotional backgrounds shows different characteristics.Experiment ?: Exploring the consistency of expressions and background emotions and background emotions have different effects on facial expressions.The results show that:1.The facial expression recognition of children with autism is not affected by the background emotional consistency.2.The facial expression recognition of children with autism and typical development children under the consistency of different expressions and emotional backgrounds shows different characteristics.In summary,the following conclusions are obtained:1.Children with autism have negative emotions when recognizing facial expressions under different background colors.2.Children with autism have local processing characteristics when recognizing facial expressions,but are affected by the richness of background information.3.Children with autism have visual advantages in recognizing facial expressions,but search performance is limited by the complexity of background features.4.Children with autism are affected by different background features when recognizing facial expressions,and emotional intensity plays a regulating role.
