Modeling method is one of the important methods in scientific research.In recent years,modeling instruction has become a hot topic in science education.The 2017 edition of high school biology curriculum standards in China also proposes that model and modeling are important scientific thinking methods.As an important learning resource,biology textbooks contain rich contents of models and modeling.Based on the analysis model and the modeling of biology textbook content,investigation on the teachers and students' usage of models and modeling contents in biology textbook,can understand the characteristics of arrangement about the model and the modeling contents in textbook and how the teachers and students actually treat the contents of the model and modeling in textbook,provide reference for front-line biology teachers' teaching and the writing and revision of biology textbooks.The research focused on the characteristic analysis of model and modeling contents in biology textbooks and the status about usage of teachers and students.First of all,a category table for the analysis of model and modeling contents of biology textbooks was established through the literature review and the theoretical research,the PEP(2019)edition biology textbooks was analyzed in both quantitative and qualitative ways.It is found that the models and modeling contents in biology textbooks include a large number of conceptual models and image models,focus on presenting models through illustration systems,focus on demonstrating meta-modeling knowledge through the history of science,and focus on guiding students to build and use models in activities and exercises,those are the characteristics of model and modeling contents of the PEP edition biology textbooks,a basic assumption on the status of teachers' usage of model and modeling contents for instruction.Based on the results of textbook analysis,a questionnaire was prepared for the usage of models and modeling contents in biology textbooks by biology teachers and students,and a survey was conducted on the biology teachers and students in one of the first provinces to use PEP(2019)edition biology textbooks.It was found that teachers attach the importance of the concept teaching based on concept and image model,the implementation of modeling activities need to be strengthened,the models in exercises are neglected.the ability and consciousness of studying and evaluating textbooks should be strengthened.Students attach importance to the concept of learning by using text and image models,but to some extent,they ignore the other form of modeling content than text and illustration,and there is a gap between the difficulty of textbooks and students' ability level.Based on the above analysis and investigation results,Suggestions are put forward for the classroom teaching of high school biology teachers,such as attaching importance to the model-based classroom teaching,paying attention to the methods and habits of guiding students to use textbooks,enhancing students' participation in modeling activities,and improving biology teachers' model knowledge level and textbook studying and reading ability;Suggestions are also put forward for compilation and revision of high school biology textbooks,such as appropriating representation of meta-modeling knowledge,increasing or improving of models in illustrations,improving of guidance words of modeling activities and exercises,and grasping of textbook content and difficulty appropriately.
