The study aims to investigate the status quo of academic procrastination and self-determination motivation among secondary vocational school students by selecting 402 students from Dongguan Science and Technology School as subjects,and to analyze the relationship between them.The results suggest:(1)The level of Academic Procrastination among secondary vocational school students is moderately low,and significant differences are found in different gender,age and family atmosphere.(2)Self-determination motivation is mainly regulated by Identified Regulation,and significant differences are found in different family atmosphere dimensions.(3)The students with high procrastination tend to be regulated by Controlled Regulation(External Regulation and Introjected Regulation).The students with low procrastination tend to be regulated by Autonomous Regulation(Identified Regulation and Intrisic Motivation).(4)Both Intrisic Motivation and Identified Regulation can significantly predict academic procrastination reversely.Based on the results of the survey,20 students with high procrastination and low self-determination motivation were selected as subjects for group counseling,10 students are selsected as the experimental group objects and the other 10 students as the control group on the principle of voluntary and the factors such as gender and grade.After a total of 10-session group counseling,the effect of the group counseling was assessed by comparing the statistics of the pre-test and post-test.The experimental group was retested two months after the group counseling to investigate the persistence of group intervention.Self-determination motivation suggests that human behavior is driven by three basic psychological needs: autonomous need,competence need and relatedness need.Satisfaction of psychological needs can improve individual happiness,sense of achievement and behavior durability.The group counseling scheme aims to meet the basic psychological needs through five stages: ice-breaking stage,self-autonomy need stage,competence need stage,relatedness need stage and practice stage,and eventually enhance students' self-determination motivation and improve the overall academic procrastination behaviors.Conclusion:(1)Academic procrastination is common among secondary vocational school students.Students with high procrastination tend to have lower motivation for selfdetermination.(2)Self-determination Motivation among secondary vocational school students is mainly Identified Regulation,and the overall level is medium.(3)Group counseling can promote motivation internalization and improve academic procrastination among high-procrastination secondary vocational students.
