Objective:The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of velocity-based strength training on the lower limbs power-related athletic abilities of college basketball athletes by back squat.Methods:20 male basketball athletes(age=20.10±1.42,average height 180±5.80cm,average weight=73.87±9.13kg,body mass index(BMI)=22.72±2.33kg/m~2,training years=3.20±0.40 years)majoring in physical education and basketball of 2018 from Wuhan Sports University were enrolled in this study. The subjects were randomly divided into the experimental group(n=10)and the control group(n=10).The control group used traditional strength training with a constant load of 75%1RM and the experimental group used velocity-based strength training(VBT)with 75%1RM corresponding speed. Then, two groups performed limb strength training for 8 weeks, twice a week,4 sets and 6 reps. The control group subjects used 75%1RM constant load to perform the back squat strength training as fast as possible. The experimental group performed the testing of 75%1RM corresponding speed, and tried their best to squat 3 times quickly with taking the average before training. The experimental group used 75%1RM corresponding speed to perform the strength training, and adjusted the back squat load when the speed changes beyond±5%in time. Before and after the training, two groups of subjects were tested some indicators, such as1RM back squat test, vertical jump height test, relative maximum force test, vertical speed test, relative maximum power test,10 yards test and T-test.Results:(1)After 8 weeks of training, there was a significant increase in 1RM back squat for the control group(P=0.00)and the experimental group(P=0.00).(2)After 8 weeks of training, there were significant increase in vertical jump height(P=0.03)and vertical speed(P=0.041)for the control group, and there were significant increase in vertical jump(P=0.006),relative maximum force(P=0.022),vertical speed(P=0.03)and relative maximum power(P=0.018)for the experimental group.(3)After 8 weeks of training, there was a significant increase in 10 yards for the control group(P=0.00)and the experimental group(P=0.00).(4)After 8 weeks of training, there was a significant increase in T-test for the control group(P=0.00)and the experimental group(P=0.00).(5)After 8 weeks of training, the T-test showed significant difference between the experimental group and the control group(P=0.049).Conclusion:(1)After 8 weeks of training, the traditional strength training group and the velocity-based strength training group have a extremely significant effect on 1RM back squat, and the effect of the velocity-based strength training group is better than the traditional strength training group.(2)The traditional strength training group just has a significant effect on vertical jump height and vertical speed, and the velocity-based strength training group has a extremely significant effect on vertical jump, relative maximum force, vertical speed and relative maximum power. In addition, the intervention effect of the velocity-based strength training group is better than the traditional strength training group in vertical jump height.(3)The traditional strength training group and the velocity-based strength training group have a extremely significant effect on 10 yards, and the effect of the velocity-based strength training group is better than the traditional strength training group.(4)The traditional strength training group and the velocity-based strength training group have a extremely significant effect on T-test,and the effect of the velocity-based strength training group is better than the traditional strength training group. In addition, the training methods of the traditional strength training group and the the velocity-based strength training group only have a different effect on the T-test.
