STEM education,originated in the United States,is an inevitable choice to adapt to the rapid economic and technological development in the 21 st century.After a long period of exploration and development,STEM education,with its outstanding characteristics of practice,innovation and integration,has made a great contribution to the training of innovative talents in multiple fields,and has gradually attracted extensive attention from various countries.This research is from top to bottom: first of all,based on "New Generation Science Standards" in the United States and the "Science and Technology/ Engineering Standards" in Massachusetts,this study focuses on the junior high school life science curriculum standards,and analyzes the inherent needs of STEM education in the curriculum standards,that is,emphasizing the integration of "Science and Engineering Practices"," Disciplinary Core Ideas " and "Crosscutting Concepts".Then,based on the biology textbook of American junior high school,it is analyzed from the perspectives of knowledge points,column settings and appendix content.It is found that the arrangement centers on the core ideas of biology subject,integrates relevant crosscutting concepts,and has rich content of inquiry practice,which is consistent with the curriculum standards.Finally,the practical operation of the model biology units are analyzed,and it is found that its characteristics are the adoption of unit teaching design,knowledge and practice to promote each other,and the promotion function of evaluation,which is the guarantee for achieving three-dimensional integration.Based on the above analysis,drawing on the beneficial experience of the United States infiltrating the STEM education concept in the teaching of biological subjects,and combining with the actual situation in China,this study proposes the following suggestions for front-line teachers,with a view to contributing to the implementation of STEM education in junior high school biology in China: carefully study the curriculum standards,overall planning unit teaching;dig up textbook content and provide related resources;pay attention to your own professional development.
