STEM is the acronym of Science,Technology,Engineering and Mathematics.STEM education emphasizes interdisciplinary integration,cultivates students' ability to use knowledge to solve practical problems and improves students' innovative ability.STEM education has been highly praised by all countries in the world and has issued the STEM education development plan one after another.In recent years,with the introduction of relevant policy documents on STEM education in China,STEM education has been continuously promoted in primary and secondary schools.At the same time,it is also a hot spot of educational research in recent years for Chinese experts and scholars.However,STEM education has just started in China.Many front-line teachers are still confused about how STEM moves from theory to practice.In this study,through collecting relevant literature at home and abroad,combing the content,characteristics and significance of STEM education,choosing the curriculum form carried out in the junior middle school biology elective course,designing the teaching mode and content.Provide reference practice cases for STEM course in junior high school biology.The research contents are asfollows:1.Analyse the concept of STEM education,sort out the forms and contents of STEM education at home and abroad.2.A questionnaire survey was conducted among junior middle school biology teachers in Changsha City.The teachers agreed that STEM education can improve students' ability of teamwork,innovation and solving practical problems.However,teachers also reflect the difficulties in carrying out STEM education in schools,such as insufficient class hours and lack of curriculum resources.3.According to the results of teachers' questionnaires,the STEM teaching mode at home and abroad is analyzed,and the STEM teaching mode for junior middle school biology elective course is constructed according to the characteristics of biology elective course education.Three teaching cases were designed based on the content theme related to biology.And in junior high school biology elective course to carry out practice.After practice,students' information feedback is collected,students agree with the form of STEM teaching,and improve their learning ability and interest.4.Combining with the experience of this project,this paper puts forward some suggestions for developing STEM education inmiddle schools: introducing STEM into school curricula in various forms;using various teaching resources to assist;providing professional development training for teachers' STEM education;and promoting development by various teaching evaluation.This study attempts to carry out STEM teaching related to biology knowledge in junior high school,with biology elective course as the carrier.The characteristics of STEM education:project learning,inquiry learning and engineering design are integrated into teaching case design.And draw conclusions through practice.It is hoped that this paper can provide ideas for middle school front-line teachers to better carry out STEM teaching.
