STEM education reform in the United States has lasted for more than 30 years,and it is an important strategy for the United States to maintain its world hegemony.The federal government has played a very important role in the process of STEM education reform.The federal government has been promoting STEM education for undergraduate students for a long time,starting in the 1980 s.The study of STEM education in the United States has certain reference value for China to better promote the development of STEM related subjects.At the same time,taking STEM education as an example,this paper studies the role and role of the federal government in the reform of undergraduate education,which can also provide specific case reference for the current reform of undergraduate education in China to better play the functions of the government.Based on the analysis of relevant research results and the definition of core concepts,this paper explains the background of the federal government's promotion of undergraduate STEM education development by using the methods of literature review,factor analysis,comparative study and case study.Issued from policy,increase funding,strengthen institutional cooperation,improving teaching method,improving the capacity of low participation population,improving k-12 phase STEM education quality to improve the quality of students,to the undergraduate STEM education quality surveillance,etc.,are introduced in detail the U.S.federal government to promote undergraduate STEM education development countermeasure,summarize its characteristics and challenges.Finally,the enlightenment of this research to the development of education in China is put forward.In combination with the current situation of undergraduate education in China and the study on promoting undergraduate STEM education development by the federal government of the United States,it has the following implications for the development of undergraduate STEM education in China.Invest in stable and sustainable funding to provide financial support for STEM development;Strengthening the top-level design of STEM education and promoting cross-sector cooperation;Strengthening the top-level design of STEM education and promoting cross-sector cooperation;To realize the whole STEM education through learning segments and ensure the consistency of talent training;Effective education monitoring and assessment,focusing on prominent issues in STEM education.
