The number of Afghan students has been increasing significantly in the global educational market.However,students have been facing several challenges due to a different culture,language,and communication.This study mainly focuses on Afghan student's adaptation in Chinese Universities from 2016 to 2019.There are very limited studies that have examined Afghan student's adaptation in foreign markets.The central aim of this study is to explore the academic adaptation of Afghan Graduate students in Chinese Universities.This study proposes the international student academic adjustment model,which includes the ten major factors,such as academic major,languages proficiency,academic achievement,housing,extracurricular activities involvement,peer relationship,interaction with faculty,per-departure preparedness,financial and employment status,orientation,and advising experiences.This study is based on an interpretive assumption with an inductive research approach to theory development.A qualitative method with a case study design will be used to provide detailed,in-depth and rich information.Purposive and snowballing sampling applied to potential participants.Semi-structured interviews conducte for data collection.The current research specified academic problems and difficulties faced by Afghan graduate students,investigated stressors reasons and explored their coping strategies.Also described the impact of demographic characteristics on the students' academic adaptation experiences.The major difficulties identified by most of the participants are that both language barriers English and Chinese,teaching methods,unfamiliar education systems,the lack of English resources,unfamiliar food,and cultural differences.Broadly,this study extends the existed literature of academic adaptation in the context of a foreign country.It is expected that a model of academic adaptation in relation to Afghan students in Chinese Universities will be developed.Practical recommendations will also be provided to Afghan students,particularly those students who are currently students in Chinese Universities or interested to study in Chinese Universities.It is also expected that it will provide detailed information on academic adaptation to Universities.It will be assisted Chinese Universities in managing students' academic adaptation effectively.
