Since the reform of the basic education curriculum in 2001,more than ten years,people had conducted extensive research on basic education curriculum materials.However,educational researchers often paid more attention to the study of textbook on theories when researching textbooks,but rarely focused on the study of illustrations.As the second language of teaching material,illustration played an important role in the textbooks.Therefore,the study of the textbooks had great value and practical significance.Through the comparative study of Chinese and foreign textbook illustrations,we had obtained excellent design experience,in order to provide reference for the illustration design and use of Chinese middle school biology textbooks.This article selected the compulsory education biology series published by the People's Education Publishing House of China and the American junior high school mainstream science textbook Science Explorer series published by Pearson Education and translated by Zhejiang Education Publishing House.The biological part of the textbook was the research object,using the literature research method,statistical survey method and comparative analysis method as the main research methods.Statistics and analysis of the illustrations of the two editions of the textbook were made,exploring the rules and characteristics of the textbook illustrations.The research content consisted of five parts.The first part was the introduction.The introduction introduced the origin and significance of the research,the research objects and methods,and the research status of the textbook illustrations at home and abroad.The second part was the theoretical basis of textbook illustrations,including the analysis of related concepts,related learning theories,the classification of textbook illustrations,and the use of textbook illustrations.The third part was the core part of this research.It analyzed the illustrations of junior high school biology textbooks in China and the United States.It mainly analyzed and explained the illustrations of the textbooks of the two countries and conducts Chinese and American textbooks according to different classification methods.According to the statistical analysis of classification,the differences in the number and category of illustrations in Chinese and American textbooks were found out,and analyzed the writing ideas of their collections.The fourthpart analyzed and compared the illustrations of the two by selecting typical examples in Chinese and American textbooks and characteristic columns.The fifth part was conclusions and recommendations.Through a comparative study of Chinese and American textbooks,it was found that the textbooks of the two countries had some commonalities,but there were also some major differences.At the same time,through comparison,it was found that the illustrations of American textbooks had several advantages.There were some shortcomings in the illustration design of Chinese teaching materials.Finally,some suggestions were made from the compilation of the illustrations of the textbooks and the use of illustrations by the teachers.
