The research aims to discuss how to apply TGFU(Teaching Games for Understanding)in the short tennis teaching practice in junior high schools.TGFU is a spiral teaching system composed of six components.Accordingly,for the six aspects from the match mode to the match execution,the teacher constructs a small match environment conforming to tennis learning requirements of junior high school students.Under the guidance of TGFU,short tennis teaching is conducted in better teaching mode and conditions than traditional ones.In the academic field,increasing studies have been conducted on short tennis recently,but few are focused on the application of TGFU in the teaching practice of short tennis,which is almost in a blank state.And the limited studies on TGFU and short tennis teaching are apparently in lack of necessary teaching design and systematic analysis of the teaching process.Therefore,with the application of TGFU in the teaching practice of short tennis,a complete teaching unit and basic framework can be constructed and developed,promoting the teaching of short tennis.Taking the second-year students in the Sixth Middle School of Dalian Development Zone as the research objects,the study randomly selects two classes for the teaching experiment.Class 3 is selected as the experimental classes,while Class 1 is selected as the control classes.The numbers of male and female students of the two classes are basically the same.After training and teaching experiments for 15 class hours,by using the methods of literature research,expert interview,experiment and questionnaire,the specific performance of the students before and after the experiment is recorded,the experimental data are sorted out and the samples are analyzed via SPSS.The research results are as follows:1.After 15 class hours of training,both the control classes and the experimental classes have certain improvement in the skill level of short tennis(P < 0.05).But some difference has been found in the improvement degrees between the control classes adopting the traditional skill oriented teaching method and the experimental classes adopting TGFU.The students of the experimental classes have made more significant improvement in their short tennis skills before and after the experiment(P < 0.01),which proves that the application effect of the TGFU teaching method is more significant.2.After 15 class hours of training,the performance level of the experimental class students before and after the experiment has been significantly improved(P < 0.01),especially in some movement skills and techniques.However,in the control classes with traditional teaching methods,no significant changes in students' performance level are found before and after the experiment(P > 0.05).3.After 15 hours of training,the analysis on the data and specific situation of the samples before and after the experiment has found significantly better cognitive level of short tennis in the experimental classes with TGFU teaching method than the control classes with traditional teaching methods,and significant difference has been found in the experimental classes before and after the experiment(P < 0.05).4.After 15 class hours of training,the learning attitude of the experimental group have changed significantly.They have more enthusiasm for short tennis,find out the unique charm of short tennis,and are deeply attracted by it.To a certain extent,significant application value of TGFU in short tennis teaching has been proved.In the research of short tennis teaching to junior high school students,the application of TGFU in a clear framework and scientific teaching design has presented its proper role and value,injecting fresh vitality for short tennis teaching innovation,worth more extension and application in junior high schools.
