In the field of parental involvement,parental involvement in homework is a newly emerging research topic in recent years.In the process of clarifying the concepts and measurement methods,researchers found that parental involvement in homework is not always “the more,the better”.Only with proper homework involvement styles can students have positive outcomes,and vice versa.This finding is supported by a large number of empirical studies,which found that parents adopting a supportive involvement style would bring a series of positive outcomes to students;and when parents adopt a controlling involvement style,parental engagement will have a series of negative results.However,the conclusions are mostly verified in Western countries,and their help for understanding the current situation of Chinese parental involvement in homework is still limited.In addition,the existing research on the contents and methods there are also some shortcomings.On the one hand,investigating the influences of homework involvement styles can only help us understand which style is more beneficial,but cannot help parents shape a beneficial style.On the other hand,homework involvement is an activity that requires mutual participation and interaction.Previous studies use more unilateral self-report method to collect data is inherently inaccurate.Based on this,this study intends to explore the current situation of parental involvement in homework in China and its impact on students' homework performance,academic performance and parent-child relationship.Furthermore,through the investigation of the antecedent variables of homework involvement style,we would learn more about how to shape a beneficial style.The present study consists of two parts,including the development of the scale and the study of the homework involvement styles' formation mechanisms and influences:(1)Based on the literature and qualitative research,Study 1 is to develop a Chinese-specific homework involvement style scale.The scale includes two dimensions of supportive involvement style(? = 0.86)and controlling involvement style(? = 0.84),each of which contains 10 questions.The reliability and validity of the scale were tested among 413 students in China,and the result indicates that the scale is suitable and effective for measuring the Chinese parents' homework involvement style.(2)Study 2 uses paired questionnaires to investigate Chinese parents' homework involvement styles and their influences on students' homework motivation,learning attitude,and parent-child relationship,as well as the impacts of parental homework stress and co-parenting on their style.The results of 312 parent-child pairing samples show that under the influence of parents' supportive involvement style,students will have stronger homework internal motivation,more positive learning attitude and better parent-child relationship.Moreover,parents' stress and co-parenting has important effects in the formation of their supportive involvement style.In details,parents' stress is inversely related to their supportive involvement style.But the reduction in stress does not necessarily lead to an increase in supportive involvement style,co-parenting plays a moderating role in this process.Only under the condition of higher co-parenting,as the stress decreases,the inclination toward supportive involvement style can be significantly enhanced.Overall,the present study re-verifies and supplements the impact of parental homework involvement styles,and analyzes the formation mechanism of homework involvement styles.The research conclusion has both theoretical and practical significance.In theory,it not only takes into account China 's educational environment and cultural background,but also provides a new perspective for the study of parents' homework involvement styles.In practice,it provides help for Chinese parents to understand and try to shape the most adaptive style in their involvement in homework.
