In recent years, the problem of punishment in education has drawn wide attention from the society. With the awakening of students' consciousness of rights, teachers are afraid and unwilling to deal with the students' bad behaviors under the external pressure. In addition, some vicious incidents caused by improper punishment from teachers occur frequently, which makes the society constantly queries educational punishment. The reasons for this are numerous and complicated, but the lack of understanding of the connotation of educational punishment and the vagueness of the value and meaning of educational punishment is one of the important reasons.Based on this, this paper tries to clarify the concept of educational punishment, justify the legitimacy of educational punishment from the perspective of utilitarianism, retributivism and deontology, explore the effective implementation of educational punishment limits. The paper is mainly divided into three parts: the first part, starting from the concept of punishment, tracing back to the source, leading to the concept of educational punishment, and then, from the perspective of "educational punishment is not something" and the relevant concept of educational punishment.Definition of educational punishment should be around in five problems, means,"why should punish, who is the subjects, who is the objects accepted punishment, what behaviors should punish and how to punish".Based on the thinking of these five questions in this paper, educational punishment is defined as follows: for the students with bad behaviors, educators adopt the appropriate way to punishing them, producing valuable pain experience,as a result, attracting students' positive thoughts and changing their bad behavior, ultimately achieving the goal of moving the mend. The second part, from the perspective of utilitarianism, retributivism and deontology, justifies the legitimacy of educational punishment.Bothutilitarianism and retributivism have left a lot of disadvantages in defending the punishment in education due to their own limitations, let alone educational punishment. However, deontology can solve these problems better, that means, defending for educational punishment. Therefore,it is Kant's deontology that can provide the theoretical basis for the legitimacy of educational punishment.Starting from deontology, educational punishment should be justified in the following aspects: firstly, educational punishment should be the internal requirement of education;Secondly, educational punishment is one of the responsibilities that educators cannot shirk;Thirdly, the motive of educational punishment is good,it is to help educators achieve the ultimate goal of reform to mend. The third part is about analysis of the limits of educational punishment, which aims to provide a value standard for educational practitioners and deepen their understanding of the connotation of educational punishment. The subject of educational punishment is the educator, including the individual or group of teachers, and the object is the students with bad behaviors.Educational punishment aims to produce valuable pain feeling, stimulating students' feelings of guilt, shame and empathy. The specific implementation of educational punishment needs to seek the cooperation between students and parents, and the measurements should be controlled in some reasonable, legal and educational waies.
