As a way of treating diseases for the primitive people, why does ritual healing reappear in the modern urban space with more developed information, education and medical treatment? Why do urban residents choose ritual healing? What is the cultural logic behind it? This is the core issue of this research.Based on a one-year field survey in Guiyang City,Guizhou Province, this study collects first-hand information about ritual healing of urban residents by means of in-depth interview and participatory observation. It abstracts the cultural logic of ritual healing of urban residents from the reasons of choosing ritual healing, the process of ritual healing and the efficacy of ritual healing, and compares the similarities and differences of ritual healing between urban and rural residents to deepen the understanding of the cultural logic of urban residents' ritual healing. It is found that the ritual healing of urban residents presents a cultural logic of the disorder and the reconciliation of the relationship between man and nature.Specifically, the reason why urban residents choose ritual healing is mainly due to the unhappiness of the living world. The healers mainly choose to receive ritual healing when they are faced with poor physical condition, interpersonal relationship and livelihood opportunities.Their choice behavior has the characteristics of rationalization, life and acquiescence. The ritual healing of urban residents is composed of two parts: faith reform and ritual, which presents the cultural logic from the disorder of the relationship between man and nature to the rationalization of the relationship between man and nature. In the stage of changing the faith, the master uses the harmonious and balanced cultural values of the healed to change the understanding of the discordance of the healed into the disorder of the relationship between man and nature, and successfully transforms the discordance of the life world of the healed into a cultural difficulty. In order to solve this problem,in the ritual stage, the master, through the manipulation of the object token through the process of "communication-exchange-reconnection-transference",mobilizes the physical perception of the subject, such as hearing, taste, vision, etc.,and urges the subject to believe that the relationship between man and nature has been straightened out.In the whole process, the ritual healing of urban residents has the characteristics of simplicity, privacy and mapping. The therapeutic effect of ritual healing for urban residents is a reconciliation of the relationship between man and nature, which has the characteristics of subjectivity and integrity. The reason why the healed think that the relationship between man and nature has been reconciled is mainly due to the belief in the master's efficaciousness, which involves a set of evaluation criteria of efficaciousness composed of social dimension and historical dimension. In addition, through comparison,we can find that there are some similarities and differences in the ritual healing of urban and rural residents. From the perspective of selection reasons, the ritual healing behavior of urban residents is a rational choice under the belief of de regionalization, while the ritual healing behavior of rural residents is a rational choice based on the belief of regionalization. From the perspective of healing process, the ritual healing process of urban residents is relatively an explicit healing process with simplicity, while the ritual healing process of rural residents is relatively a more delicate explicit healing process. Finally, from the perspective of the efficacy of ritual healing, the subjective judgment of urban healers on the effectiveness of ritual healing is mainly based on the level of spiritual experience, while the subjective judgment of rural healers on the effectiveness of ritual healing is mainly derived from their own religious belief system identity.
