Research On Chinese Teaching Strategies For Lao Children

With the dramatically development of teaching Chinese as second language,the age of foreign Chinese learners is getting younger,the number of volunteer Chinese teachers teaching overseas is growing rapidly.Consequently,teaching Chinese to foreign childhood learners has been paid more and more attention in recent years.And research on teaching Chinese as second language through case study is also more and more popular among researchers.However,presently,there are few researches on teaching Chinese as second language in Laos,no matter in the field of teaching adults or teaching children,no matter through case study or other means.Overall,it is still in its infancy.On the other hand,in recent years,the number of volunteer Chinese teachers who go to Laos to teach Chinese has skyrocketed.While most of them are undergraduates or postgraduate students major in teaching Chinese to speakers of other language.In other words,they are non-experienced student teachers.They are not only lack of practical teaching experience,but also lack of understanding of the current situation and characteristics of Chinese teaching in Laos.Based on the experience of teaching Chinese to Lao children in Laos,the author extracted three teaching cases,one is about classroom management,one about class teaching,and the other one about cross-cultural communication.The cases are analyzed in three steps: background introduction,case description and case analysis.Interviews were also conducted with Chinese teachers in Laos,Lao native teachers and Chinese parents.The characteristics and problems of Chinese teaching in Laos were thoroughly considered and analyzed.Based on the interview results and the author's own analysis,the strategies of teaching Chinese to Lao children were explored from the three aspects: classroom management,improving teaching quality,and cross-cultural communication,and corresponding suggestions were also put forward.In the aspect of strengthening the classroom management,the author suggests establishing and ensuring the authority of Chinese teachers in Chinese classrooms,establishing the Chinese classroom teaching order,and adopting appropriate classroom organization and reward methods.In terms of improving teaching quality,it is proposed that to teach Chinese to children as a second language,teachers should follow the "input hypothesis",should be good performers and adopt diversified teaching methods.In cross-cultural communication,it is suggested that cultural teaching should be cultural sharing rather than cultural indoctrination,and teachers should respect other cultures and follow the working culture of international schools.
