Scientific thinking is one of thecore literacy and an indispensable ability for Chinese students. As a major course in cultivating students' scientific thinking ability, public welfare biological science courses had attracted more and more attention from domestic educators. At present, there were few related studies on science thinking shaping in science popularization courses in China,so a research was started in this study from the impact of public welfare biological sciences courses on the pupils' scientific thinking ability. There were two parts in this paper:In the first part,a questionnaire survey was used to investigate the current situation of science popularization activities among 1000 students in 10 elementary schools in Dalian before designing the science popularization course,The current situation and deficiencies of the science popularization course in Dalian were understood. The content of the popular science curriculum was designed to try to cultivate students' scientific thinking from five dimensions such as induction and deduction, comparison and classification, analysis and synthesis, abstraction and summary, and critical thinking. In the second part, according to the scientific thinking index proposed by Professor Wu Chengjun, combined with the students' situation, the opinions of front-line teachers and teaching and research staff,a questionnaire for primary school students' scientific thinking evaluation was designed.Based on the sample of primary school students taking science popularization courses in the Science and Technology Center of Shahekou District,Dalian, the same batch of 200 primary school students from the fourth, fifth, and sixth grades were evaluated before and after the lecture.SPSS19 software was used to carry out significant difference analysis on the evaluation data.It showed that the public welfare biological science curriculum played a very obvious positive role in the formation of scientific thinking ability for primary school students. The public welfare biology popularization courses carried out in this study significantly improved the induction and deduction ability of primary school students.Especially, the improvement effect was more significant for younger students. At the same time, students' ability of abstract and generalization, comparison and classification, analysis and synthesis, and critical thinking also had been improved to a certain extent.Combining the implementation of the public welfare science popularization courses in this research and the results of the assessment of primary school students' scientific thinking ability, the following suggestions were proposed for the development of public welfare science popularization activities among primary school students: Improving the scientific nature of the biological public science popularization courses;Utilizing modern skill improve the quantity and quality of the popular science courses in biology;Paying attention to strengthen students' ability of compare and classify, generalize and deduce, analyze and synthesize, abstract and generalize and critical thinking.
