As the core index reflecting personal human capital accumulation, the educational achievements in adolescence are not only related to their personal development, but also to the development of economy and society. Therefore, children's educational achievements have been widely concerned by families, schools and society.Children's academic performance is the result of many factors including family, school and society. The Coleman report, published in 1964,points out that as the starting point of students' education, family has a greater impact on children's academic performance than school and society.Family background plays an important role in educational decision-making.Understanding family factors that affect children 's academic performance is helpful to help the government formulate effective and targeted intervention policies, alleviate educational inequality, and promote social equity. With China's aging population and the increasing number of children,it is of great significance to study the influence of the family structure of grandparents and grandchildren living together on children's academic performance and the mechanism for the development of children's academic performance.Different from the literature that focused on the influence of grandparents' individual characteristics on children's academic performance in the past,This paper uses the 2014 survey data of China's Family Panel Survey to build a valueadded model of educational output for children aged 10-15,and uses several methods including OLS regression,Instrumental Variables and Propensity Score Matching(PSM)to explore the impact of grandparents and children living together on children's academic achievements, increased the credibility of the empirical results and analyzed it from the perspective of changes in the investment of family education resources. This article not only adds an important case study to the existing literature, but also provides new ideas for future theoretical explanations of related research on the impact of grandparents and children living together on grandchildren.Through the analysis of the empirical results,we can draw the following conclusions.First, the Co-residence of grandparents and children has a significant negative impact on children's test scores, and it is still significant after using Instrumental Variable method and Propensity Score Matching method.Second, for children with higher initial scores and better educational environment, the influence of grandparents' Co-residence on their test scores is lower.Third, for the families where grandparents and children live together, the time investment for children's education and counseling is significantly lower than other families.Fourth, because of the increase of family economic burden brought by grandparents' Co-residence and the decrease of per capita income, the possibility of family spending on children's extracurricular education in the early stage is significantly lower than that of the family where grandparents and children do not live together. Finally, according to the conclusion of empirical analysis, this paper gives some policy suggestions, the policy suggestions, including: improve the social pension system, increase the public expenditure of basic education, and popularize scientific education knowledge.
