This paper is conducted by a mixed-methods sequential explanatory design, the purpose of which is to explore the relationship between personality and the self-disclosure of romantic relationships on social media. This article collects quantitative data among 537 college students and 20 of them is selected as interviewees for qualitative research. The quantitative research examines the relationship between personality and self-disclosure of romantic relationship in a macro perspective. The results show that extraversion and neuroticism positively predicts self-disclosure of romantic relationships on social media, and agreeableness, conscientiousness and openness does not affect individuals' romantic exposure. The purpose of the qualitative research is to explain the conclusions of quantitative research. The research founds that highly extroverted individuals are more likely to disclosed their romantic relationships due to social reasons, but when extroverted individuals believed that the purpose of self-disclosure of romantic relationships is for the romantic relationship itself, then extraversion has nothing to do with self-disclosure.Neurotic individuals viewed social media as a vent of emotions,so highly neurotic individuals with large emotional fluctuations is more likely to disclose romantic messages.Highly agreeable individuals have better relationships with friends, and do not worry about self-disclosure affecting others.Lowly agreeable individuals do not care about the impact of self-disclosure on others and agreeableness has nothing to do with the disclosure of romantic relationships.Conscientious individuals placed high demands on themselves as for their studies and work,so conscientiousness has nothing to do with self-disclosure on social media.Open-minded individuals believe that "public displays of affection" is no longer a new phenomenon,so openness has nothing to do with self-disclosure of romantic relationships on social media. The study find out that under different circumstances, individual psychological activities are different, and personality has different effects on the self-disclosure of romantic relationships on social media.
