In the great flood of rapid industrialization and urbanization, urban space has been expanded. But because of the single urban development mode and lack of characteristics,Region shows the face of the same urban construction and the unharmonious factors of man-land relationship increases gradually. In this context,Optimize the living environment according to local conditions not only become an important topic to guide urban development and coordinate the man-land relationship, but also become the basic demand of "human-oriented" urbanization development path.Taking the urban agglomeration in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River as an example, followed the main line of real background analysis, theoretical frame construction, spatial and temporal changes, feature classification and optimization path construction, this paper makes a systematic study on spatial and temporal evolution of human settlements in research, and trying to include ecological, living and production environment in an analysis framework, discusses the advantages and disadvantages of human settlement environment construction. At last this article intends to provide theoretical basis and policy support. This paper starts with the relationship between human settlements and urban competitiveness, has combed the correlation theory of human settlement environment and competitive power and the mutual influence relations, and formed the urban human settlement environment competitiveness theory structure.First of all,the study use AHP method to construct the three level index system of the urban human settlement environment.the competitiveness of urban human settlements environment is divided into three sub systems which are foundation, core, potential competitiveness, and these sub systems has covered five environmental which are field the ecological, housing, public services, leisure and economic development.Second, the study,by using the method of combining qualitative and quantitative, analyzed the process and characteristics of the spatial and temporal evolution of human habitat environment from 1999 to 2014 in urban agglomeration in the middle reach of Yangtze river.Analysis found that:Ecological and leisure environment changes in the pattern of competition; The spatial pattern of residential environment competitiveness is in a stable state; The spatial pattern of public service environment competitiveness is constantly changing; The competitiveness of economic development environment gradually showing a situation of tripartite confrontation pattern which formed by Nanchang,Changsha and Wuhan.Once more,Based on the Arcgis software platform, using the spatial clustering analysis method, the study have carried on the cluster and the characteristic analysis to the urban agglomeration urban agglomeration from 1999 to 2014 in the middle reaches of the Yangtze river.Main features are as follows:Ecological and leisure environment has a significant competitive advantage, but other areas are inferior at first kinds of regions;Ecological and leisure environment is poor, but other areas have a competitive advantage at second kinds of regions;Excellent leisure environment, poor ecological environment and other areas for the general level are the characteristic of the third kinds of regions; The characteristics of the fourth types of areas are excellent for living and public service, but other areas are competitive disadvantage; The characteristics of fifth types for each field are more excellent, especially in the field of ecology, leisure, public service advantages. In the end, based on the understanding of the pattern of evolution, historical characteristics and development trend of urban human settlement environment competitiveness in urban agglomeration in the middlereaches of the Yangtze River.Puts forward four paths to enhance the competitiveness of urban human settlements, which covers the guiding principle, the realistic foundation, the development orientation and the construction strategy.
