With the progress of internet technology and the rapid development of consumer finance,non-cash payment is playing a role in expanding consumption, reducing cash flow, reducing transaction costs and promoting the development of the real economy. And it also changes the consumption habits and consumption patterns of residents profoundly. Therefore,it is of practical significance to analyze the effect of non-cash payment on urban residents' consumption level deeply. This paper follows the research ideas and methods from theory to practice, from history to reality, and from normative analysis to empirical analysis.According to theoretical analysis,non-cash payment affects the urban residents' consumption level mainly through two ways. The one is to increase consumption intention. The specific performance is that non-cash payment provide a guarantee for residents to consume anytime and anywhere, and its convenience increases the consumption propensity; The mental account effect of non-cash payment reduces the psychological loss of payment; The interest-free credit overdraft promote consumption utility. And the other one is to improve consumption capacity. The consumption credit function of the non-cash payment can ease the mobility constraints, and release consumer demand in advance.Based on it,the paper firstly studies the effect of non-cash payment on the urban residents' consumption comprehensively level by linear models, then build the smooth transition regression model which is a linear model is nested into nonlinear model to research the linear and non-linear effect of bank card payment and electronic payment on the urban residents' consumption level.Separately.The em pirical results show that non-cash payment can promote consumption to a certain extent.Specifically, current bank card payment has nonlinear promotion effect on the current urban residents' consumption, but the effect direction of the lag depend on the growth rate of disposable income.Credit card which belongs to bank card shows the greater linear and nonlinear impact on the urban residents' consumption due to the double function of convenience and consumption credit.Electronic payment also shows linear and nonlinear effects, but it promote urban residents' consumption both in the current period and the late period. The difference between the bank card payment and electronic payment work on residents' consumption shows that bank card payment promotes cons umption with its convenience and mental account effect, and make full use of consumption credit function simultaneously.Hence, the user has a certain delayed repayment pressure in the late period, which inhibits current consumption. While electronic paymen t promotes the current consumption mainly through its convenience and mental accounts effects, and users don't rely on its consumption credit function too much.So there is not great delayed repayment pressure for user. Therefore, electronic payment also s hows on urban residents' consumption in the late period. Finally, based on the reality investigation, theoretical analysis and empirical results, this paper put forward policy suggestions about building and consummating the payment protection system and payment market system respectively from government and market two aspects,in order to let non-cash payment play a positive role in the urban residents' consumption, and then raise the level of urban residents' consumption?...
