Under the background of international division of labor, the level of export technology has become important in measuring the competitiveness of service trade. At present, the international service trade generally takes on a pattern that developed countries are leading high-end services while developing countries are locked in traditional services, which is similar to that of trade in commodities. The key to enhancing the competitiveness of trade in service is enhancing that of high-end service such as knowledge-intensive or technology-intensive service sectors. Therefore, accurately judging the advantages and disadvantages of export and properly assessing the status of international division of labor is the basis for sharpening the core competitive edge of China's service trade. This paper proposes a method for measuring the export technical level of China's service trade.Firstly, this paper uses Multi-Regional Input-Output model to measure value-added in service trade. Then we use domestic value-added embodied in service trade to measure China's export sophistication in service trade.Besides,we analyze the development condition of China's service trade according to export sophistication, and make a comparison between China,OECD economies and BRICS economies listed in WIOD database. The results are as follows:(1)The export technical level of China's service trade has been enhanced, but it still hasn't reached the world average level. The export sophistication of labor-intensive service sectors is high, such as wholesale and retail sectors. However, that of knowledge-intensive service sectors is low, such as computer programming, finance and insurance sectors.(2)Compared with OECD economies,China has a higher level of export technology in labor-intensive service sectors, while OECD economies have a higher level in knowledge-intensive service sectors.(3)Compared with BRICS economies,China and Russia have advantages in labor-intensive service sectors, while India in knowledge-intensive service sectors,Brazil in health, education and public service sectors.Lastly, based on the conclusions above, this paper puts forward specific suggestions on improving the export technical level of China's service trade from four perspectives of breaking down low-end lock-up,deepening international cooperation in service trade, accelerating transformation and upgrading of industries,as well as development strategies.
