Today's business world is highly competitive. The competition between enterprises always means the comparison in their supply chain. However, the design of supply chain network plays the main and important role in supply chain management. The task of designing supply chain network is to determine the number of the products and the transportion amounts, etc. The purpose is to ensure that the goods can be manufactured and delivered with the right amounts and at the suitable time in order to meet the needs of customers and maximize economic benefits.Firstly, the research background and significance are clarified. The relevant literatures are reviewed and the research contents and route are explained. Then, the theory of supply chain network design is introduced, which explains the theory of green supply chain network, customer satisfaction and multi-objective optimization.Next,a multi-objective model is established to minimize cost and maximize the environmental performance simultaneously, which aims to determine the right manufacturing capacity, the optimized transport flow and the suitable transportation mode in the supply chain network when the two objectives are optimized. The transportation mode selection has been considered as a decision variable in this paper and the multi-objective Particle Swarm Optimization(MOPSO)has been applied to solve the model. The relationship between the economic and environmental objectives and the impact of transportation mode selection on the result are obtained through an example analysis. Finally, this paper established a model to capture the trade-off between total cost and customer satisfaction. Moreover, the transportation mode has been considered as a decision variable. At the same time,MOPSO is applied to solve the model. The example indicates the relationship between the economic and customer satisfaction and the influence of transportation mode selection on the result. The effectiveness of the present model and approach is evaluated by the numerical experiments. The result shows that the added environmental performance is actually proportional with the cost increased. And the positive relationship between total cost and customer satisfaction is non-linear.That is,the customer satisfaction will increase with the increase of total cost, but the increase will be slower and slower.Additionally, the comparison between different mode decisions shows that a better trade-off between two objectives will be obtained when considering the transportation mode selection. Therefore,it is necessary to consider the choice of transportation mode as a decision variable in a similar supply chain network design work.
