For companies, safety performance is an extremely important issue that affects the survival and development of the company. In today's era, where production safety and employee well-being are particularly important, the biggest problems faced by companies is how to effectively improve employees' safety performance and well-being.With the rise of self-determination theory, safety motivation is an important determinant of improving corporate safety performance and employee well-being.Although the impact of safety motives on safety performance and employee well-being has attracted the attention of researchers, relevant empirical research lacks clear theoretical definitions and effective measurement tools. Therefore,on the basis of manufacturing enterprises and the classification of motivation by self-determination theory, the study expands the types of safety motivation into autonomous motivation and controlled motivation, and divides safety performance into three categories: safety compliance, safety participation, and illegal behavior. At the same time, the study also divides employee happiness into three dimensions: cognitive dimension, emotional dimension, and overall job satisfaction dimension.Next,in the framework of self-determination theory,we discuss the different effects of safety motivation on safety performance and employee well-being.The literature reviews section not only analyzes the relationship between safety motivation and safety performance, but also analyzes the relationship between safety motivation and employee well-being.In the empirical research, employees of the manufacturing industry in the Suzhou area were used as the research object of this survey. Then the data were collected by questionnaire survey and the study used SPSS 22.0 to analyze statistical data. The findings of research are as follows: 1.there is a significant positive correlation between intrinsic motivation and safety performance or employee well-being;2.there is a significant positive correlation between identity motivation and safety performance or employee well-being;3.there is a significant negative correlation between extrinsic motivation and safety performance or employee well-being.Safety motivation can significantly affect employees' safety performance and level of well-being.Therefore,at the enterprise level, managers must actively take actions to increase employees' autonomous motivation, such as safety training and education. From personal perspective, employees must recognize from the heart that compliance and participation in safe behavior can effectively improve their safety performance and reduce the occurrence of safety accidents.
