The Evolution Of American Trade Policy In The Post Obama Era

On November 8,2016,the United States' fifty-eighth presidential election kicked off,as the only superpower in the world today,the white house changes hands will have an impact on the world economy to a certain extent.As we all know,in today's world,foreign trade activities are an important part of a country's economy,and a country's trade policy is an important way for the government to intervene in foreign trade activities,so its importance to the economy is self-evident.This topic is selected from the 2016 U.S.presidential election on the occasion,using the United States government change as the research background,discuss the evolution of the American trade policy since the post Obama era.The author traced the electoral process,until the Republican candidate Donald Trump earned the unexpected victory,replaced Democratic Party Barack Obama became the forty-fifth president of the United States,which has also become the biggest “black swan” event in 2016.Because of the president's change,their different economic ideas will generate different trade policies,and even the controversial style of President Trump has made the development of the US trade policy more complicated.This paper firstly introduces American trade policy under the Obama Administration,and then making brief combing of international trade actions Trump have taken since he took office,and compares with the Obama Administration's trade policy,in order to discuss how these changes will impact China.This dissertation is divided into 6 chapters.Chapter 1 is the introduction.This chapter discusses the background and significance of the topic selection,the related literature review,and introduces the research methods,research ideas and structure,as well as possible innovations and deficiencies.The related literature research includes: the historical review of the Obama Administration's trade policy,the study of the Trump Administration's trade policy and the factors that influence the US trade policy's change.Chapter 2 reviews the trade policy of the United States during the period of Obama's Administration.This chapter introduces the decision-making mechanism of American trade policy and combs the main contents and characters of the trade policy under the Obama's Administration.Chapter 3 introduces the Trump Administration's trade policy.This chapter reviews the economic and social background of the US presidential election in 2016,collate Trump's propositions during his campaign,and summarizes the contents and characters of Trump's trade policy.Chapter 4 compares the trade policy between the Trump administration and the Obama government on the basis of chapter 2 and the chapter 3.This chapter first compares the faction's different ideas since the two presidents come from different parties,then analyzes the reasons for the change of Trump's government's trade policy from three angles as following: the economic,political and international system changes.Chapter 5 expounds the opportunities and challenges brought by the trade policy of the Trump administration to China,also puts forward some suggestions for China on how to deal with the “Trump Phenomenon”.Chapter 6 is the conclusion of the full text.
