Interview is an important way to recruit talents,and is the most widely used way.However,the validity of interview has been questioned,and scholars have discussed it.At the beginning,scholars believe that the main factor affecting the validity of the interview is the interviewer.With the deepening of the academic achievements,the scholars began to pay attention to job seekers false response in the interview that the interview faking behavior.With the concept of interview faking behavior proposed,scholars believe that the direct factors is motivation to fake,ability to fake,and opportunity to fake,while ignoring the interaction effects of individual and situational on behavior.Therefore,based on the interaction of individual and environment theory and rational choice theory,the study put forward that interview faking behavior is affected by motivation to fake and motivation to fake is tested by Machiavelli's level.Self monitoring and interview question type will moderate the relationship between Machiavellianism and interview faking behavior.At the same time interview faking behavior differences will have difference in the demographic variablesIn this study,a questionnaire survey was conducted among 253 fresh and former graduates with interview experience to collect data.Secondly,two experiments were carried on 107 fresh graduates,the first time to explore the interview faking behavior under the behavior description interview,second time to explore interview faking behavior under the situational interview.With the validity data,we used Internal Consistency Reliability Analysis and Confirmatory Factor Analysis to investigate the reliability and effectiveness of each scale then used one-way ANOVA and Multiple Regression Analysis to verify hypothesis.The results show that:(1)motivation to fake significantly predict interview faking behavior and four dimensions;(2)ability to fake positively moderate the relationship between motivation to fake and fitness enhancement;ability to fake positively moderate the relationship between motivation to fake and ingratiation;(3)behavioral description interview negatively moderate the relationship between motivation to fake and image creation and ingratiation;situational interview positively moderate the relationship between motivation to fake and image creation and ingratiation;(4)image creation is different in the numbers of interview;distortion is different in numbers of interview and work experience;ingratiation is different in educational background.From a theoretical perspective,the study enriches the research on affecting factors of interview faking behavior and explain moderating effects between motivation to fake and interview faking behavior.In addition,interview faking behavior is a sensitive topic,the questionnaire survey method is difficult to obtain the real data and the subjects are easy to dissemble.This study introduces experimental method and interview method,which enriches the research method.From a practical perspective,the study explores the influence mechanism of interview faking behavior through the empirical method which can help enterprises to understand interview faking behavior and take effective coping strategies.In addition,with the interview of applicant and HR,we can help applicant to understand interview faking behavior and establish a correct concept of employment.
