| The role of innovation in economic and social development has become increasingly prominent, and as the basic unit to promote national economic growth and development, cities have the driving force of national innovation. At present,a new scientific and technological revolution and industrial changes are about to emerge. The increasingly close linkages between cities are becoming an important force for stimulating China's economic transformation and development. Therefore, measuring and analyzing the spatial-temporal evolution characteristics of China's urban innovation linkages has practical significance for the formulation of regional innovation planning and urban innovation development strategies in China.Based on the literature review and modified spatial interaction model, this paper used 2004-2015 urban patent and thesis database and other city data as the basic data to measure the scale of urban innovation linkages and build the urban innovation linkages network among 286 cities in China. And based on research methods such as social network analysis, spatial analysis and statistical measurement, this paper explored the temporal and spatial evolution characteristics of China's urban innovation linkages network, and analyzed the influencing factors of node performance as well as proposed policy recommendations. The main conclusions are as follows: firstly, there has been an obvious temporal-spatial evolution in China's urban innovation linkages.Although the linkages has a relatively low average level, its total intensity has increased significantly. Its spatial distribution is uneven, but the degree of dispersion and fluctuation are decreasing.Secondly, the linkages within the network is getting closer and the strength of it is constantly increasing. The network shows small-world characteristic.Thirdly, with the development of urban innovation, the weighted degree centrality and weighted degree centrality of network nodes have a clear trend of clustering. And the city hierarchy presents an obvious pyramidal structure based on the weighted degree centrality.Fourthly, the strength of the urban innovation linkages of cities in eastern China is stronger than that in the west.Strong links exist only in a few economically developed regions, and the backbone of the network presents an approximate diamondshaped. The attachment of nodes has obvious directivity, and capital cities have the strongest attraction. Some regional central cities have grown rapidly and promote an increasingly balanced network evolution.Fifthly,a total of 4 communities that belong to important spatial configurations are identified through community detection algorithm, and they reflect the agglomeration characteristics of the network.Sixthly,6 factors have a significant positive impact on the network position of nodes.Cities with higher levels of innovation are more likely to occupy the core position in the network. |
