A Study On The Effects Of Diversification Agglomeration On Enterprise Innovation

The 13 th Five-Year Plan of China pointed out that innovation is the core of the national development task,and enterprise innovation is the main content of national innovation.In the past 20 years,the external environment factors of enterprise innovation has got more and more attention and research,in which the most representative phenomenon is agglomeration.Most empirical studies focused only on the behaviour of cluster within a industry,while researches about the relation between the diversification of industruies agglomeration and innovation were relatively insufficient,resulting in lacks of in-depth analysis of the mechanism.Therefore,it is of great importance to improve the innovation power of our county and to guide the regional practice of industrial structure by exploring the diversification agglomeration effects on enterprise innovation more comprehensively.First of all,based on the theory of the diversification's effect on enterprise innovation(Jacobs externality theory),the empirical research literatures and relevant research results at home and abroad were combed and summarized.Then the basic theories of diversification agglomeration including knowledge spillover and economies of scale were analysed.Through the comparisons between these theories,we found the deficiencies of Jacobs externality theory that diversification agglomeration's effect on enterprise innovation is not only related to the degree of diversity,and also related to the actual enterprise region agglomeration scale.In view of this,a further exploration of the mechanism between the diversification and enterprise innovation was carried out from the perspective of evolution of agglomeration scale.Then hypotheses were put forward that in the process of agglomeration scale development from the formation to the mature,the impact of industrial diversification index on the enterprise innovation showed as a increased inhibitory effect firstly,then the effect falled gradually and translated into apromoting effect of growth;If the agglomeration scale continues to expand,the promoting effect would decline as a result.Overall,diversification agglomeration's effect on enterprise innovation showed as an approximate tendency of inverted N type with the evolution of agglomeration scale.Based on the microscopic cross-section data of China's manufacturing enterprises in2007 and the geographical unit of prefecture-level cities,an empirical research was carried out in accordance with the virtual variable of urban agglomeration scale.Then the article conducted regression analysis on by the use of Chinese provincial panel data from2008 to 2015.These two empirical results were consistent with the hypotheses and also pointed out that:(1)The urban agglomeration scales of western region were small,causing the effect of industrial diversification index is relatively low,and in some parts it showed as the inhibition.(2)Some big cities in the eastern part had appeared overcrowded agglomeration scales,causing the deterioration of the diversification's effect to innovation.Finally,by combining with theoretical analysis and empirical results,the article put forward suggestions to accelerate the enterprise innovation and development in our country including the adjustment of regional industrial structure,the regulation of urban employment scaleand the strengthen of industrial cooperation and communication.
