In the 1980 s,the development of major American enterprises was dominated by diversification,globalization and the prevalence of the Internet.However,due to the changes in the external operating environment and the escalation of market competition,more and more enterprises discovered a downward trend in business performance in different domains.Accordingly,some enterprises started to adjust their business strategy and focused on the domains with better performance by reallocating the resources while withdrawing from those with poorer performance.As a result,both business performance and the competitiveness in core business improved dramatically in these enterprises.This economic phenomenon was profoundly concerned by the academic world and,after research,scholars such as Constantinos C.Markides defined this phenomenon as refocusing.Since the reform and opening-up policy was introduced in 1978,Chinese society and economy have experienced a forty-year period of rapid development with the emerging of companies on a large scale.According to the Fortune 500 in 2018,there are 120 Chinese enterprises on the list,all applied with a diversified and global developing strategy.In particular,diversification has become a major tool for Chinese enterprises to expand the business scope.Simultaneously,there are countless examples of failure in the implementation of a diversified strategy and some enterprises have endured a dramatic loss.A part of these enterprises later reversed the margin decline and experienced a second period of enterprise development with a refocusing concentration in their developing strategy.This study takes Sichuan Provincial Logistics Co.,Ltd.(Sichuan Logistics)as the object and aims to generate a refocusing strategy and specific implementation plans for the object with relevant theories and analysis methods in the field of refocusing strategy management.First,through analyzing its operating data and business structure,we discover several developing issues in Sichuan Logistics including business performance decline,low resource utilization rate,business unfocused and low synergy rate.Second,we categorize the different business of Sichuan Logistics with both Resource-Based View and Composition-Based View theories and then formulate a strategic goal and a corresponding implementation phase,based on the industry trend and its strategic focus on the ecosphere of intelligent logistics.Then,with the refocusing strategy applied,we generate an implementation plan for Sichuan Logistics based on the refocusing expansion of its core business,the refocusing contraction of its peripheral business,and a balance between different business.Eventually,we propose an implementation plan of the refocusing strategy for Sichuan Logistics concerning the organization,mechanism,human resource,risk behavior management and information assurance.
