This paper is based on considerable on-the-spot investigation, research and literature reading. Having made investigations and studies in PetroChina Sichuan Marketing Company on its current management of finished petrol distribution and its storage and transportation facilities, the author of this paper consulted a large amount of related statements of the company and information of foreign companies in this field.She has found out that the company has some problems in the management of finished petrol distribution and thus has not met the requirements of modernized distribution system. The problems are as follows: the distribution of finished petrol storage facilities is not all rational and a network of distribution system based on economic region has not been established yet; it is difficult to find an optimized distribution scheme owing to the many layers of managing teams involved; the distributing functions are not sound with old facilities and low rate of use; there is a lack of information on finished petrol distribution and logistics; and there is a shortage of qualified personnel who have acquired the latest ideas and technology on distribution.Based on the findings, the author has made the following proposal on how to improve the finished petrol distribution system and management of the company. First of all, an effective organization of finished petrol distribution needs to be established. Secondly the operating mechanism of distribution network should be standardized. Thirdly information technology should be applied to the modern management of finished petrol distribution and logistics. Fourthly the internal management of the finished petrol distribution system should be strengthened. Finally distribution managing personnel should be introduced and trained. Only in this way can the distribution system of finished petrol be established and the company will improve its marketing competitiveness.The author thinks that PetroChina Sichuan Marketing Company has a promising future in its business of finished petrol distribution if it can meet the requirements, of modern distribution and logistics, import advanced ideas of management and qualified personnel and further integrate its existing distribution facilities and resources.
