The multi-mode warhead has become a hot topic in the field of ammunition at home and abroad in recent years.It has the characteristics that a warhead can produce multiple modes of damage,such as EFP,JET,JPC and Fragment,which has important applications in the field of cruise missiles.A charging structure is proposed in this study whose main feature is that an explosive is placed in front of the liner,and a space is reserved between the liner and the main charge.By controlling the interval between the detonation of the pre-charge and the main charge,the shape of the liner is changed to different shapes before being crushed by the main charge,resulting three types of damage elements such as EFP,JPC,and JET.A numerical simulation study was conducted on the charging structure,and the influence of the interval initiation time on the performance of the damage element was discussed.It was determined that the interval initiation time corresponding to the EFP,JPC,and JET modes were 0 us,20 us,and 65?s,respectively,and the formation process of the damage element was performed.Simulations were performed and the corresponding lengths of EFP,JPC,and JET were found to be 73 mm,119 mm,and 161 mm,and the head speeds were 3573 m/s,5062 m/s,and 6365 m/s,respectively;the three types of damage elements had obvious morphological and velocity characteristics which are close to ordinary damage element.Finally,the penetration test of this type of charging was conducted.From the test results,the penetration depths of steel targets corresponding to EFP,JPC,and JET were:135 mm(1.59 D),300 mm(3.23 D),and 450 mm(5.29 D).The penetration effects of the three types of damage elements are significantly different.The penetration depth from EFP to JET gradually increases,the penetration aperture gradually decreases,and the correctness of numerical simulation results are indirectly and qualitatively verified from the perspective of penetration effect.The previous multi-mode warheads mostly achieved the effect of producing different damage elements by adjusting the detonation waveform.Generally,only two types of damage elements can be generated by that way,while the proposed charging structure can produce three types of damage elements.Through the numerical simulation analysis and experimental verification of the charging structure,the validity of the multi-mode damage element produced by the charging structure is demonstrated,which provides a new idea for the future research and implementation of the multi-mode warhead.
