Insensitive Munitions is a new concept of munition, and that will not react violently under a variety of external stimuli. In enemy actions, it is most emphasized that munitions should be able to withstand high temperature, shock wave, impacts by bullets, metal jet or fragments, and nearby explosions still without reacting in violent manner. Insensitive Munitions plays an important role in the development of the new munitions. Based on the background of Insensitive Munitions technologies, the response processes and laws of the warhead under metal jet attack were researched, and how to reduce the response level to achieve desensitization of warhead by setting different shells, linings, explosives and air gaps between the shelling and fillings was discussed.On the basis of jet penetration hydrodynamics theory and explosive "hot spot" initiation theory, according to local effect hypothesis and varied caliber and shell thickness of warheads, the jet initiation warheads was simplified to jet initiation the covered explosives, sandwich explosives or covered and confined explosives. Firstly, researched on the jet treated as a solid cylinder of metal impacting on the three simplified models, and the divisive initiation mechanisms and initiation modes were summarized; The calculation methods of the critical initiation threshold of the jet initiation simplified warhead models were deduced; and then against the 56mm diameter shaped charge, the formed metal jet initiation of the simplified warhead with different configuration conditions, such as changed shells, linings, explosives and contact situations, etc. was simulated by using the AUTODYN based on the Lee-Tarver, after then, how the research results of desensitization effect of plastic deformation of cover, the confinement of shell, and the sensitivity behaviour of explosives applied to desensitize the warhead was explored. Finally, the preliminary experiment research was carried on, and the test results partly verified the simulation conclusions. The studying results provide simulation technologies and experimental methods and data support for desensitization of warhead exposed to the impact of a shaped charge jet.
