Objective:To investigate the role of Human herpesvirus type 7(HHV-7)in the development of drug rash.Methods;70 blood samples collected from patients with drug rash(including 21 severe cases)were compared with their healthy counterparts in terms of the expression level of HHV-7 DNA fragments in peripheral blood mononuclear cells by Real-time polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR).Enzyme-Linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA)was used to detect the level of serum HHV-7 IgM.Results:Seventy samples collected from the patient group(81.43%,57/70)was demonstrated to have a higher positive rate than that of the control group(61.43%,43/70)in terms of the HHV-7 DNA fragment(?2=6.8600,P<0.05).Positive rate of the HHV-7 DNA fragment was well correlated with severity of clinical manifestation.It was detected in about 90.48%(19/21)of severe patients,followed by 77.55%(38/49)in mild patients and the control group with significant differences(?2=8.0633,P<0.05).Severe patient had a higher positive rate than the control group(?2=6.2775,P<0.0167).The expression of the HHV-7 DNA in the patient that was rated to be more severe had a higher positive rate than the patient which was in recovery phase(71.43%,.15/21),but no statistical significance(P>0.05).HHV-7 DNA load was analyzed in patient group(84993.1301±411902.7396copies),control group(5888.5573±23204.9367copies),severe patient(242845.3926±722562.1314copies),and mild patient(17342.1604±103819.3580copies),between acute phase and recovery phase(7001.7696±27877.9112copies)was not significantly different(P>0.05).The HHV-7 IgM level was significantly higher in the patient group(70.1051±21.6748pg/ml)than the control group(57.7234±17.6455pg/ml)(t=3,7065,P<0.05).The HHV-7 IgM level in the severe patient(74.0935±26.5944pg/ml),mild patient(64.7722±19.5607pg/ml)and control group were not identical in each group(F =5.92,P<0.05).The severe patient group had a higher value than that of the control group(q=4.6869,P<0.05).The HHV-7 IgM level was no significance in patients with HHV-7 DNA positive(67.2418±24.0924pg/ml)and negative(65.7901±30.9351pg/ml)(P>0.05).Conclusion:Patients with drug rash were demonstrated to have the presence of active infection of HHV-7,it might be an environmental factor for the development of drug rash.
