The interrelationship was explored between aesthetics of mathematics and graphical space by investigating the interdisciplinary interactions between geometric mathematics and graphical design.I show the newly constructed graphical design language inspired by and originated from the principles of Euclidean geometry and Non-Euclidean geometry.Extending beyond my graduation project focused on the two-dimensional graphical design,I explored further the design of three-dimensional graphical spaces and developed methodologies to create graphical spaces by referencing geometric principles.I overcame the limitation of graphical representation by cherishing inspirations from the rich geometric mathematical science. In the first chapter,I discuss basic concepts of geometric mathematics and the key characteristics of differing geometric types and their influence on graphical design.I then present a comparison between the flat Euclidean geometry space and the curved and non-Euclidean geometry space, demonstrating several core elements closely related to visual arts.Cases are analyzed and presented to assist this comparison. In the second chapter,I present case studies of experimental graphical space designs inspired by various geometric concepts, and probe into the use of mathematical formulations to architect and create three-dimensional spatial graphics.I demonstrate a set of useful rules based on geometric mathematics derived by closely analyzing the cases from two different angles – from the space expression of geometric graphics and from the interdisciplinary space exploration geometry. In the third chapter, the course of my graduation design process is reviewed which unveils the creative route that I took to achieve the mathematic-inspired graphic designs ranging from??.?? to ??.??.The process also includes a discussion on my experimental efforts to discover concrete design practices in the expression of spatial graphics based on fundamental design principles. My unique approach to expressive graphical design is demonstrated, which leveraged geometric mathematical fundamentals and enriched traditional methodologies with all-new design principles.Lastly,I show a creative method of converting two-dimensional graphical designs to three-dimensional,stereoscopic visual systems using mathematical knowledge systems, demonstrating an universally applicable method towards visually appealing graphical creation.
