| With the continuous development of economic globalization, the demand for personal social communication skills becomes stricter than before.Dating back to the early stage of everyone’s life, social emotional ability that sprouted and developed in their early years lay the foundation for future social interaction. The first three years of children’s life comprises a critical developmental period. In this period, brain growing rapidly and has strong plasticity.Such growth is also critical for the development of individual’s social-emotional competence.Cognition, emotion and social development are the three core aspects of children’s psychological development.Good social-emotional development in infancy will have a positive impact in the future, while social-emotional development barriers in infancy will have a negative impact in the future.Family is the most basic unit of human life, and the early experiences of family life affect children’s social-emotional development.Although domestic relevance studies on the relationship between parenting behavior and social-emotional development of infants is almost complete and mature, these researches are mostly concentrated in urban areas and relatively few in poor rural areas.Meanwhile, researchers rarely use a systematic scale to conduct a more comprehensive test of the family care environment for infants. The primary goal of this study is to analysis the relationship between family care environment and social-emotional development for infants at the age of 0-3 years old in western rural areas.Ultimately, this study aims at promoting infants’ social-emotional development in western rural areas and providing political suggestions to reduce the human capital gap between urban and rural areas. In order to achieve the goal, this study randomly sampled 681 infants aged 6-24 months living in 47 villages across 7 nationally-designated poverty counties in rural areas of southern Shaanxi Province.Primary study outcomes include a household survey of demographic characteristics within children’s own characteristics, parental characteristics, family characteristics and Family Care Indicators(FCIs)and Ages and Stages Questionnaires:Social-Emotional(ASQ:SE).Then multiple linear regression analysis was used to analyze the relationship between family care environment and infants’social-emotional development. Finally, this study proposed political suggestions accordingly. The results show that:(1)There is a serious delay in infants’ social-emotional development in poor rural areas.Almost 46.11%of infants suffering from social-emotional development delay, and as they age,the social-emotional ability worsens. The children’s social-emotional abilities development has significant differences in children’s gender, education degree of mother, family economic level.(2)The percentage of family care environment total score suffering from less than mean value in poor rural areas is 47.58%.The families in this area provide infants with a single type and source of toys, less scientifically nurturing parenting behavior and a small number of books owned by families.(3)Our data further shows that family care environment is significantly and negatively correlated with infants’ social-emotional development(p<0.05).Family care environment has significantly impact on the infant’s social-emotional development. The influence of family care environment on infant’s social-emotional development is different among infant’s months, especially for 9-14 months and 15-20 months infants(p<0.05).Based on the above analysis conclusions, this paper puts forward targeted improvement strategies as following:Firstly, the infant’s social-emotional development in poor rural areas is serious, parents should pay attention to the early training of children’s social emotional ability,as well as pay attention to care and support exceptional children.Secondly, the government departments and social institutions need to provide more support for infant caregivers, such as raising family care environment in poor rural areas, furthermore enhancing screening, prevention and training. |
