With the popularization of higher education in our country, the phenomenon of poor students in higher school becomes increasingly evident. Family Environment Scale and Mental Health Scale as measuring instruments. This paper takes poor students in higher school as subject of study, non-poor students as a compared object, parents' job, parents' literacy degree and family structure as hard family environment, parents' method of upbringing, relationship between parents, parent-child relationship and ten elements in Family Environment Scale as soft family environment. This paper regards a family as a whole, and discusses the relationship between the family environment and mental health of poor students by means of systematic research. The results mainly show that: (1) the family environment of poor students is worse than that of non-poor students ; (2) The overall condition of poor students' mentality .is normal, but there is widely-existed and slight mental problems; (3) Family environment is an important factor that influence the mental health of poor students, while the soft family environment makes a more evident influence on poor students' mental health than hard family environment does.
