In the period of the May Forth New Culture Movement, the Chinese society made a difficult transition from tradition to modernity, which greatly changed people’s past experience of space and perception of space. At the same time, the footsteps of the followers of the first batch of Chinese modern female writers "emerged from the historical surface ",with pen as a microphone, into the chorus of the times. One period of a generation of literature, one era also has a time space writing content and style, the May Forth female writer’s space image often with obvious characteristics of the times, and soaked with the writer’s own temperament and femininity, the appearance of behind the written space also contains the female intellectuals in the epoch-breaking era of social and temporal perceptions and spiritual experience,as well as dissolved in the space image of the mental difficulties difficult to reveal. This paper is divided into five parts: the introduction, the first chapter, the second chapter, the third chapter, the conclusion and so on.The introduction includes two parts: "the proposition and significance of the problems" and "the research summary on space writing of the female writers in the May Forth period".The first part is to sort out the development of the concept of space and draw lessons from the space theory described by Lefebvre,Long Diyong and Jin Jianren to define the meaning of space and space writing and the division of space types in this paper, pointed out the significance of the topic and the main content. The second part briefly summarizes and combs the researches on female writers’ space writing during the May Forth Movement, and points out the shortcomings of current research. The second chapter mainly discusses the deep meaning behind the space writing, from three aspects: the space writing and the character shaping, the space opposition and the space anxiety. The first section of space writing and characterization explores the impact of space on human psychology, behavior andpersonality. In the writings of the May Forth female writers, the transformation of space and the resulting psychological and behavioral changes manifest themselves as a binary opposition Pattern, space shape and reflect the character of the character, the character of space and character character often complement each other. The conflict between old and new characters and the new space and the conflicts between the new characters and the old space focus on revealing the confrontation between the family space and other space as the important representative of the old space.Conflict of identity, which is the limitations of women themselves, but also the limitations of the times. The third is the mental distress in space anxiety. It points out that the focus of anxiety of the May Forth new women in the family space after marriage is that the identity construction of "new women" is flawed.Women get out of their families identity, but did not get the gender identity as "women",causing them to make serious omissions in the construction of gender. However, women writers in May Forth did not get the new literature how to treat the relationship between husband and wife and unequal gender relations. In the language of the novel, they can only see the problems of women, but they can not answer them and fall into mental difficulties. The third chapter explores the formation factors of spatial writing in the novels of female writers of the May Forth period. The first is to trace to the source of space consciousness in the novels, and points out that the effect of China’s space-based thinking style and narrative tradition on the space consciousness of the May Fourth female writers;secondly,it explores the characteristics of the times and the cultural context of the May Fourth period, which restricts the selection of the type of space by the female writers;finally, starting from the experiencing and aesthetic appeal of the female writers themselves, illustrating different living environments and emotional experiences, which also affect the construction of the space in the novel. The epilogue points out that the shortcomings of spatial writing in the female writers of the May Forth period novels, they have not formed personal prominence, nor the regional characteristics, and lack of concern for rural and urban bottom.Nevertheless, their spatial writing outlines the track of female pursuit of modern main personality in the turning era, showing us the footprints of the struggles of the female pioneers.
