A Comparative Analysis Of Cultural Meanings Of Basic Color Words In Chinese And Vietnamese

Due to geographical and historical reasons,Vietnam has been influenced by China in terms of language and culture,and has a lot in common with China in terms of culture.However,in the course of its development,Vietnam is affected by history,geography,social background,and religion.The influence of beliefs,psychological awareness and other factors have also formed their own unique and differentiated culture.This cultural difference has also attracted more mutual learning between the Chinese and Vietnamese peoples.There are many differences in the cultures of different countries.Color culture,as a part of many cultures,is often seen and used in people's daily lives.Because of the difference in people's perception of things of the world,the words that different peoples and nations use to describe the colors of things are not the same,,and the cultural implications are also greatly different.Although Vietnamese was once influenced by Chinese language,the perception of the physical characteristics of color is basically the same,the two countries still have many differences in color vocabularies,due to the different ways of thinking and behavior that different languages produce.In the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language,the teaching of color words is often neglected compared to other Chinese knowledge and is not comprehensive and systematic.In particular,the interpretation of Chinese cultural meaning contained in the Chinese color vocabularies is not in place,which leads that international students only get basic meaning of color words.and are little known about their deep cultural meanings,causing errors in their use and hindering the successful progress of cross-cultural communication.There are many similar aspects about the cultural meanings of the basic color words of Han and Yue,for Vietnamese students,which helps them to understand and correctly use the basic color vocabularies of Chinese.However,there are also a lot difference about the cultural meaning of the basic color of Chinese and Vietnamese,direct teaching may not be able to grasp the focus of teaching,nor can students really understand the cultural meaning of the basic Chinese color words so that students can not use it correctly in their daily life,if there is no comparison,.Therefore,this paper summarized the previous researches on color words in Chinese from the aspects of language ontology knowledge and cultural connotations,as well as the research status of contrasting Chinese and Vietnamese color words,and confirmed the research content-the cultural meaning of basic color words of Chinese and Vietnamese.After introducing the relationship between color and color words,the authors analyzed and summarized the delimitation of the basic color words of Chinese and Vietnamese,and on this basis,elaborated the reasons why chose the "Red","Yellow","Green","White","Black" as the basic color words in Chinese and Vietnamese to analyze and study.Through the study of the cultural connotations of the five basic color words of Chinese and Vietnamese,we can understand the social features and cultural psychology of China and Vietnam.And this paper compared and analyzed about the similarities and differences of the cultural connotations of the five basic color words of the Chinese and Vietnamese,and had futher analysis about reasons why cultural connotations of the basic color words of Chinese and Vietnamese had similarities and their own characteristics.Hopefully,I can be inspired to provide suggestions for teaching Chinese to Vietnamese and make teaching Chinese as a foreign language more effective.
