English reading is essential to improve the ability of using English for students in elementary and secondary school.It also plays an important role in developing their thinking quality,shaping a good cultural character and promoting their learning ability.As the period in primary school is the initial stage of English learning for students and their cognitive level and English vocabulary are both limited,interesting English picture books can meet the needs of reading for students in primary school.From the current research,although more and more schools are beginning to pay attention to the teaching of English picture books,they mainly focus on the study of the teaching strategies and the practice of picture book reading in the English class.Schools cannot give students systematic guide and management because of the lack of optimization of reading resources from the school level.This study is based on the theory of school-based curriculum development of Beck.The thesis focuses on the background and reasons for the development of this school-based curriculum in English picture books,the connotation and significance of the development of this curriculum,the formulation of the objectives in the course of development,the integration of school-based curriculum resources,the specific process and methods of the implementation of the curriculum,and the evaluation and improvement of the school-based curriculum.In the course of the study,the literature study method was used,and the case analysis was taken as an example of three typical English picture book reading courses.Some teachers and students who participated in the school-based curriculum development of English picture books were investigated by questionnaire and oral investigation.Students,parents and English teachers are interviewees to understand the attitude and suggestions on the development of this curriculum,and we hope to find out the problems so as to implement the school-based curriculum more effectively.Through practical research,the following problems are found in the process of school-based curriculum development:Firstly,there is a gap between curriculum objectives and the reading effect achieved by students.Secondly there is a lack of linking between school-based textbook resources and the national curriculum resources.What's more,effective supervision and management in the implementation process is missing,and the imperfection of curriculum evaluation system is still existing.Last but not least,the feedback and improvement measures after evaluation are not taken in time.The main reason is that schools do not plan and utilize all kinds of curriculum resources scientifically;educational administration departments and schools lack relevant rules and regulations of school-based curriculum management;and schools do not attach importance to the evaluation and revision of school-based curriculum.In view of the above problems,the corresponding countermeasures are suggested as follows:First,pay attention to students' reading needs,enhance the "student-centered nature"of school-based curriculum objectives;Second,enhance the awareness of curriculum resources,building a scientific and rational curriculum resources model;Third,improve the implementation process of the curriculum and the effectiveness of school-based curriculum implementation.At last,establish a evaluation system of processing and multi-party subjects that participate together,in order to ensures the sustainability of school-based curriculum implementation.
