At the end of the Qing dynasty,the study of steles was popular.Cheng Duolu’s calligraphy not only integrated the broad features of"respecting steles" in the Qing dynasty,but also was part of literati who entered the people from the Qing dynasty,forming a unique artistic style.Cheng Duolu had the "the scholar who has the fragrance vibe of books " of literati in the republic of China.Cheng Duolu conformed to the trend of the times,and had the strongly admiration and praise,and his works spreaded far and wide in China.Nowadays,there is a research institute dedicated to Cheng Duolu in Jilin,northeast China,and its calligraphy exhibition and auction in Beijing have also attracted a lot of attention from the academic circle.With the extensive attention paid by scholars to the study of local calligraphy history nowadays,the study of Cheng Duolu calligraphy is of great significance not only to the exploration of the history and culture of calligraphy in northeast China,but also to the expansion of the territory of Chinese calligraphy research,which is of great research-value.This paper is divided into three parts.The first part is the introduction and overview of Cheng Duolu’s life and the details when he contacted and traveled with his friends.Starting from the life of Cheng Duolu,this paper analyzes his experience of learning calligraphy from books and discusses his thoughts that influenced his life.Cheng Duolu lived in a turbulent age,and he was influenced by zen thoughts all his life,which even influenced his understanding of calligraphy.In the field of calligraphy,it is the most taboo to do things behind closed doors.Therefore,the formation of Cheng Duolu’s calligraphy style also benefits from the guidance and communication between teachers and friends.Cheng Duolu respected teachers and valued friends,he made friends with many celebrities,including many famous calligraphers.For this reason,Cheng Duolu’s calligraphy was improving day by day.The second chapter explores Cheng Duolu’s calligraphy achievement.The second chapter explores Cheng Duolu’s calligraphy achievement.In the late Qing dynasty and the early republic period,Cheng Duolu was in a flourishing era of stone inscription study.Cheng Duolu was very successful in learning the calligraphy style of Yan Zhenqing and Weng Tonghe and took a place at that time.Cheng Duolu is good at regular script,running script,cursive script and seal script,and has left many precious calligraphy ink.The third chapter is the general overview of chengduolu’s historical position and influence.Cheng Duolu had a good reputation in writing poems and calligraphy,and was valued and respected by people at that time.Asa calligrapher mainly active in northeast area,Cheng Duolu had a great influence on the local historical and cultural inheritance and the development of calligraphy.Cheng Duolu’s has his unique artistic characteristics.Through the interpretation of the text describing Cheng Duolu and the analysis of his calligraphy works,this paper explores and sorts out his callig,raphy art in order to realize the overall and systematic understanding and knowledge.TThis is not only the study and analysis of Cheng Duolu’s calligraphy art,but also the exploration of a calligrapher with the nature of literati in the late Qing dynasty and the early republic of China.This study has certain value for others to study Cheng Duolu and his calligraphy in the future.
