Freedom for a living organism itself, its essence is the embodiment of the life activities of the living organism itself. It can be said that for the living people, the pursuit of freedom is an eternal theme.Human existence itself is a living problem of freedom. In Schelling's philosophy, the idea of freedom is contained in his whole vivid idealism system, and with the development of self, the degree of freedom gradually increases. From the beginning of ancient Greek philosophy, freedom and necessity have always been in the relationship between fire and water, and this problem seems to be well solved here by Schelling.Of course, for a philosophical problem,it has no ultimate answer, but we have to say that Schelling's thinking about freedom brings us closer to the essence of freedom. In the whole history of philosophy, there are different opinions on the understanding and development of the concept of freedom.Everyone has his own unique opinions. So if we want to study Schelling's theory of freedom and understand its meaning thoroughly,we must first make clear the origin of Schelling's theory of freedom, and then study Schelling's works. Therefore, this paper will introduce and discuss Schelling's concept of freedom on the basis of transcendental idealism system and other works. This paper will be divided into three parts. The first chapter mainly introduces and discusses the theoretical background of Schelling's concept of freedom and its development and freedom in the history of Western philosophy, and tries to analyze their relationship and influence with Schelling's concept of freedom, with emphasis on Kant's understanding of freedom and its antinomy. The second chapter is mainly about the description and analysis of the theoretical and philosophical part of Schelling's brilliant idealism system, trying to find out the relationship between it and freedom, its thinking on the concept of freedom, and the relationship between each part and freedom. The third chapter is about the impact of Schelling's free thought on ethics and art,as well as the limitations of his free theory.
