Motivation has been proved to be one of the most dynamic factors in language learning.Primary school stage is the enlightening stage of students' contact with English learning,which has great influence on students' life-long English learning and development.It is very important to cultivate students' interest in learning English and stimulate their intrinsic motivation in primary school English teaching.The integration of motivation principles in the process of foreign language teaching design is a new research trend.The ARCS motivation model proposed by Professor Keller of the University of Florida in the United States is the most famous motivation theory.Firstly,this study summarizes the background of oral English teaching in primary schools.Secondly,the theory of learning motivation and the model of ARCS motivation are studied in literature.Thirdly,through the method of questionnaire,this paper studies the present situation of students who are taught by the author.Then the author designs teaching strategies and methods and analyzes its effect through teaching.Finally,it is proved that it is effective to apply ARCS motivational model to the design of oral English teaching strategies in primary schools.According to the ARCS motivation model,this paper provides a systematic motivation analysis and program model for teachers to stimulate students' motivation in the design and practice of foreign language teaching.By applying ARCS motivational model in practice,it has achieved good teaching results.Students can have better performance in class,have a clearer understanding of their learning objectives,enhance self-confidence and be more and more satisfied with their English learning.It is believed that if more primary English teachers are willing to learn these teaching strategies and use them creatively in class,more pupils will benefit from it.And our oral English teaching in primary schools will have a better development.This study attempts to apply the ARCS motivational model in the design of oral English teaching strategies in primary schools,and try to summarize twelve practical teaching methods and strategies based of the four core factors of attention,relevance,confidence and satisfaction.This paper hopes to make a complete analysis of how to apply these teaching strategies and methods in class through the way of practical cases,so as to provide some useful examples for English teachers in primary schools.
