This paper takes the creation of tragic paintings as the starting point,mainly studies the tragic theory elaborated by Nietzsche's Birth of Tragedy and the reasons for tragic pleasure brought by tragic works: sympathy,pity and fear.Appreciation of tragedy is a complex phenomenon,and there is no reason for it to be fully explained.Tragedy painting is easier to arouse moral and personal feelings than other subjects,because it is the most serious art.Therefore,in creating tragic paintings,we should first understand what tragedy is,what tragic pleasure is,and what tragic purification effect is.At the same time,we should distinguish the difference between tragedy and fatalism: resisting fate.Only through compassion can one transcend one's will and intuitively recognize universal suffering through the suffering of tragic characters.The tragic character gets rid of his will to survive through actual personal pain.We can see his tragedy and get emotional satisfaction and nobility by sharing his pain.And through the creation of tragic images,to achieve the purpose of tragic purification,so that the viewer can get emotional relief,as well as the sense of vitality from compassion,sympathy and fear,lament the despair of tragic fate,and the pursuit of good character,as well as reflection on society and human beings.
