Research On The Image Of The Brick Paintings Of The Emperor's Mausoleum In The Southern Dynasty

The portrait brick is a mural form used for decoration in tombs.It gradually developed and completed during the period from the Eastern Jin Dynasty to the Southern Dynasty,and was widely used in tombs of different grades.In the Imperial Mausoleums of the Southern Dynasty,the portrait brick not only has profound cultural connotations,but also become part of the tomb system.As a representative image,the picture of "Zhu lin qi xian and Rong Qiqi" is usually considered to express the yearning for hermits of the rulers in the Southern Dynasty.This thesis analyses some implicit contents of its image details,and concludes that the image is a step to express the process of ascension of the soul of the tomb owner.It means that zhu lin qi xian confers the immortal liquid and pills to the soul of the tomb owner and chants for the soul of the tomb owner.This thesis carding the image themes in brick paintings of Immortal Feather Dragon and Tiger,and puts forward that the image content is that the soul of the tomb owner travels to the heavens under the guidance of Dragon and Tiger through the position relationship between the portrait brick.Based on the newly discovered data,this thesis attempts to restore some of the mutilated portrait brick.After comparing the similar themes of the Han Dynasty' decoration in tombs,it is proposed that the top of the tomb may be the subject of celestial images with the sun,moon and four animals,or the destination of the tomb owner soul in the image sequence.This restores the complete image of the impression portrait brick of the emperor mausoleums of the Southern Dynasty.While giving the appearance of the characteristics of the Southern Dynasty,it retains the tradition of the tomb arts of the Han Dynasty.
