Wang Yuquan's Historical Research

Wang Yuquan was one of the few famous historians of 'stepping on the east and west culture' in the modern history of China.He was committed to studying the history of ancient currency,the history of Qin and Han Dynasty,and the history of Ming Dynasty,and he has a deep influence in these areas.This paper discusses Wang Yuquan's academic achievements and his contribution to Chinese historiography by analyzing his academic process,historical achievements and historical methods.The first chapter mainly expounds Wang Yuquan s personal life and historical achievements,and describes his extraordinary life from birth,entering private school,going to university,studying in the United States and returning to work until his death.Over the past sixty years,Wang Yuquan has made outstanding academic achievements in the fields of the history of ancient coinage,the history of Qin and Han Dynasty,and the history of Ming Dynasty,his academic achievements made a great contribution to the study of Chinese history.The second chapter takes The Origin and Development of Ancient Chinese Coinage as an example,according to the analysis of various ancient coins in this book as the narrative sequence,and expounds Wang Yuquan's research overview and results in the field of monetary history of Pre-Qin Dynasty.The book accurately identified the problems in the study of ancient coinage with its research features of cautious judgment,detailed content,rigorous research and brave criticism have swept away the shortcomings of previous studies on ancient coinage.The third chapter synthesizes five related articles in Laiwu Collection written by Wang Yuquan,and explains Wang Yuquan's academic status in the research field of institutional history of Q.in and Han Dynasty by referring to his research achievements of the legal system of Qin and Han Dynasty,the local administrative system of Han Dynasty,and the land system of Jin Dynasty.In addition to discussing Wang Yuquan's specific research on system of household registration of Han Dynasty,this chapter also notes his research characteristics,such as his ground-breaking,extensive research vision and emphasis on investigation and dialectics,and his influence in the household registration research field of Han Dynasty.The fourth chapter mainly discusses Wang Yuquan's achievements in the field of economic production relations and army farming of Ming Dynasty.Based on the discussion of corvee and cropland of Ming dynasty,Wang Yuquan discussed the economic production relation of Ming dynasty.Arming Farming in Ming Dynasty is Wang Yuquan's representative work on the army farming of Ming Dynasty.The book is comprehensive,elaborate and self-contained,use statistics and charts,These research features have won wide praise from the academia.The fifth chapter is the summary and sublimation of this paper,mainly discusses Wang Yuquan's historical thoughts and methods.He insisted on historical thought of dialectical materialism,for instance,he adhered to the historical principle of seeking truth from facts,and emphasized on the dialectical thinking of contradiction analysis,and he also paid attention to the 'non-evolution' of Chinese history.At the same time,he leave profound academic enlightenment to posterity scholars with his historical method that emphasizes the connection between macroscopic and microcosmic view and the combination of horizontal and vertical approach.
