Founded in 1902,Ta Kung Pao is an influential newspaper in Tianjin and even in north China.Although Ta Kung Pao is not a special vernacular newspaper,it has often published plain and understandable vernacular Chinese and elucidated some simple and understandable principles since its establishment. It covers a wide range of contents, covering literature, education, law, history, folk customs and other aspects. It has a very rich vocabulary, which is of great value in linguistic research.Chinese Dictionary is the most authoritative large Chinese reference book, but there are some omissions and omissions. Therefore, this paper selected the vernacular Chinese of Ta Kung Pao from 1902 to 1918 as the corpus, studied its vocabulary, compared it with the Chinese Dictionary, and supplemented the Chinese Dictionary from the perspectives of entry, definition and documentary evidence,in the hope of contributing to the revision and improvement of the Chinese Dictionary. The "Introduction" part mainly discusses the significance, research status and research methods of this paper.Chapter one: "Ta Kung Pao vernacular neologisms and the revision of the Chinese Dictionary".The period from late Qing Dynasty to early Republic of China was a transitional period from modern Chinese to modern Chinese. In this period,a large number of New Words appeared in vernacular newspapers, especially in vernacular Chinese of Ta Kung Pao.Chinese Dictionary records the Chinese New Words in this period, which is not only helpful to the study of the development history of Chinese vocabulary, but also has important significance to promote the standardization of Chinese.Unfortunately, many New Words in the vernacular of Ta Kung Pao are not included in the Chinese Dictionary. These New Words are mainly supplemented to the Chinese Dictionary from five aspects: political economy, military legal system, life and entertainment, culture, education and health, and religious science.Among them, political economy is divided into political and economic parts;military legal system is divided into military and legal parts;life and entertainmentare divided into life and entertainment;culture, education and health are divided into culture, education and health;religious science is divided into religion and science.Chapter two: "the same element and different order of Ta Kung Pao and the revision of the Chinese Dictionary".Allogeneic construction is an important linguistic phenomenon in the development of Chinese vocabulary, including Allogeneic Words and Allogeneic Idioms. In the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China, the forms of language units were extremely unstable, and with the rise of vernacular literature, homogenous and heterogenic constructions appeared more frequently. Some of the same elements and different structures appeared in the vernacular of Ta Kung Pao were included in Ta Kung Pao,while some were not.According to the inclusion of the two words in the Chinese Dictionary,we supplement the Chinese Dictionary from the two aspects of the same order and the first order respectively.Chapter three: "the Transition Words in Ta Kung Pao and the revision of the Chinese Dictionary".At the end of Qing Dynasty and the beginning of Republic of China,Transitional Words and their simplified forms existed at the same time and were used alternately. Finally, the simplified forms were retained due to frequent use, while the transitional forms gradually faded out from Chinese.Although Transitional Words are no longer used, they are not worthless and have great implications for the study of the creation and shape of vocabulary. Therefore,Transitional Words should be included in the Chinese Dictionary, which treats Transitional Words and their simplified forms equally. There are a large number of Transitional Words in the vernacular of Ta Kung Pao,but the Chinese Dictionary only includes some of them, and there are still some missing words.Chapter fourth: "the revision of the fang vulgar words in Ta Kung Pao and the Chinese Dictionary".The vernacular language of Ta Kung Pao contains a wealth of vernacular words, and the extensive use of dialect words and colloquial expressions makes them of high linguistic value. The Chinese Dictionary records the Dialect Vocabulary,is helpful for the mandarin to absorb the beneficial ingredient in the dialect, promotes the Chinese nation common language the development. However,at present, there are many dialect dictionaries and a large number of them are collected. Therefore,a time limit should be set for the collection of dialect words in the Chinese Dictionary, and it is best to limit it to the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China. The Dialect Words appeared in the vernacular of Ta Kung Pao but not included in the Chinese Dictionary should be supplemented from the categories of characters, behaviors, body organs, daily life, nature and state, and other categories. It is not only helpful to the study of the history of Chinese vocabulary, but also helpful to the study of contemporary dialects and folk culture. The Colloquial Words appeared in the vernacular of Ta Kung Pao but not included in the Chinese Dictionary should be supplemented in terms of festival customs, folk beliefs, folk arts, weddings and funerals, daily life, and other categories.Chapter five: "the glossary of Ta Kung Pao and the semantic supplement of Chinese Dictionary".Interpretation is the soul of the dictionary. The quality of a dictionary depends to a large extent on whether the interpretation is appropriate and accurate, and the establishment of the meaning is the primary problem of interpretation. The Chinese Dictionary belongs to the detailed dictionary. The analysis of the meaning of the word should be meticulous and comprehensive. However,it does not draw on the vernacular corpus in Ta Kung Pao when it comes to the meaning of the term. Some of the entries are lacking due to the relative lack of documentary evidence. Therefore,it is necessary to use the vernacular corpus of Ta Kung Pao to add meaning to the Chinese Dictionary.Chapter six: "the glossary of Ta Kung Pao and the documentary evidence supplement of Chinese Dictionary".Documentary evidence is a key factor reflecting the quality of a dictionary. It interprets the meaning of words through specific and vivid language materials, which makes the semantics of words more abundant. The era of documentary evidence, the sequence of documentary evidence, and the number of documentary evidences are closely related to the reliability of the terminology and the accuracy of interpretation.Chinese Dictionary has made major breakthroughs in the typicality, richness and timeliness of the book, but there are still problems such as the lag of documentary evidence, single documentary evidence, and lack of documentary evidence, which affects the overall quality of the Dictionary.Selectingand confirming documentary evidence,a large amount of rich and extensive linguistic materials is indispensable.Ta Kung Pao has a large time span, rich content, and high linguistic value.Using the vernacular corpus in Ta Kung Pao,it carries out documentary evidence on the Chinese Dictionary from the aspects of early documentary evidence, orphan proof, and undocumented supplement. In addition, the documentary evidence of the Chinese Dictionary can be corrected more accurately.
